Nine confirms new ‘stripped’ food format

Exclusive: Nine confirms it is developing a new restaurant reality series.

2015-01-26_2217aEXCLUSIVE: Seven’s My Kitchen Rules returns next week but Nine has now confirmed its intention to return to the food genre with a new format.

Nine’s Director of Programming and Production Andrew Backwell confirmed a recent TV Tonight rumour, saying, “I’m happy to say that Endemol is producing a new food show for Channel Nine. It’s in the late stages of development and will start shooting shortly.

“It’s a ‘stripped’ food format, set in restaurants, and I think it’s a really solid idea.

“I think we were one of the first to get into the food space with The Chopping Block with Matt Moran, Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares played very solidly on Nine,” he said.

The format has been whispered about as the “MKR of restaurants” with teams travelling the country to dine in and score each others’ restaurants.

Nine is currently casting the new series.

  1. I’m actually glad Nine is doing this-well why not! Hopefully MKR will drop in ratings too & hope this will give it a run for it’s ratings. I’m always up for something new and that sounds good.

  2. Agreed, why isnt there much variety on tv now days, we need some more variety shows and new game shows would suit well. Game shows are fun and entertaining look at the rebooted Family Feud doing well. Why not try Sale of the Century again or even Wheel of Fortune and with the variety shows, why not produce a show similar to Hey Hey its Saturday or IMT or even a midday show like the old days on Nine.

  3. There’s a daytime BBC series called restaurant startup. It could be based on that. Whatever it is I’m sure it will Involve couples cooking for the other contestants in their restaurant and the couples will score them out of 10, and there will be a mix of nasty and nice couples

  4. How many more reality shows do we have to endure, wondered how long it would be before nine was back on the band wagon, all we have is building, cooking, building, cooking, how pathetic is this getting.

  5. Fair dinkum! If it isn’t tough enough now recording a scripted series programme by setting the PVR 10 minutes early and finishing 40 minutes after the end credits or combining two programmes plus a 40 minutes after the end credits because of late end time of the unintersting of a reality series, it’s going to get a lot worse with more of this reality dreck
