Richard Reid exits Today
Hollywood gossip guru departs Today after seven years, but hints at new appearances elsewhere.

Hollywood gossip guru Richard Reid has left the Today show after seven years, but hints at other appearances yet to be announced.
“After seven glorious years, it’s time for me to step down as the reigning Gossip Guru of Today. From the Royal Wedding to Royal Randwick, the gutters of Tinseltown and the Logies Red Carpet, my time with the Today Team has been one of the wildest and most rewarding of my career. I am truly blessed,” Reid said in a statement.
“While you won’t be waking up to me every morning on Today, I love to say that I’m like a bad rash: I always come back! I’ll be attending to family matters and hard at work developing TV projects in both Oz and LA. Exciting and uncharted territory for sure, but I am super excited and I hope you will be for me too. I might be gone from the airwaves for now, but certainly not gone for long! 2015 will be full of surprises. Stay tuned!
“I am so grateful, not only to Channel Nine and our loyal viewers, but to the entire nation for embracing my over the top antics. Be it Today, Domestic Blitz and 20 to 1, Australia has unconditionally welcomed me into their lounge rooms and made me feel a special love like I had never known before. On Twitter Reid has denied a Herald Sun rumour he could be joining TEN’s upcoming I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!
Reid becomes the latest regular to depart following the recent axing of Emma Freedman, due to cost cuts. It’s not clear if his departure is also a cost-cutting measure but Today Show Executive Producer, Mark Calvert said Reid would not be replaced.
“You can’t replace the irreplaceable. He’s one of a kind,” he said.
“Richard has been a huge part of the success of the Today show in recent years, a shining star, with one of the biggest, brightest personalities on television.
“He’s made countless friends at Nine, and right across Australia. He’ll be missed by everybody.”

Let me guess @jshaw, you’ve been made to watch Ch10 due to Big Bash and you’re missing Ch7’s MKR promos, which have been screening ad nauseam since October.

Yes!!! Now I can stop using the mute button. Now I don’t have to listen to his loud, over the top “Hollywood gossip entertainment” reports.
He certainly loud. Seems to have this amazing energy when all his viewers are just waking up, still a bit tired and trying to get motivated for the day.
I couldn’t stand him, I found him shrill and annoying. Wish him all the best however.
It’s a redundant role surely. Twenty years ago a Hollywood reporter might have served a purpose but in the days where every little tidbit of Hollywood gossip is over the net in minutes, or even direct from the source themselves via Twitter, don’t really see what purpose a cross to Hollywood serves.
Giselle & her ‘tween gossip’ is annoying. It is all One Direction, the Kardashians, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift etc.
Today needs to find a suitable replacement for Richard Reid ASAP. He is still the best.

Gissel replaced my fave gossip columnist and isn’t as likeable as either of the now former gossip presenters
He’s loud, he’s in your face, he’s not shy, but most of all he is so genuine and a beautiful human being. All the best with your future Richard.
