No date for iQ3 launch

Foxtel subscribers hoping for an iQ3 launch in February are likely to be waiting a little longer.

iq3bFoxtel subscribers hoping for an iQ3 launch in February are likely to be waiting a little longer, with the Pay TV provider advising no date has been confirmed.

In December subscribers who had pre-registered for the new PVR received an email indicating it was on track to arrive in February.

A promo with the same date was also briefly running on air before being pulled.

But the scale of such a major operation may mean subscribers will have to wait a bit longer.

A Foxtel spokesperson said: “It’s coming soon and we’re just in the final stages of testing to ensure the best experience possible, but we haven’t got a definitive date to share at the moment. We’ll keep you posted on any updates.”

“It’s imminent,” Brian Walsh recently told TV Tonight.

“We’re ordering the set top boxes now but it will be a considered roll-out because the installations have to go through that process. But we’re confident many of our existing customers will want to swap the box and we’ll meet demand as best we can.”

Asked if there would be any fee to upgrade he added, “We haven’t gone into any commercial detail yet and we won’t do that until we’ve got a firm date.”

  1. After reading this post earlier today, I happened to receive a call from a Foxtel Consultant. I questioned her on the delivery timeframe for IQ3 saying that I had just read that it has been delayed, but she assured me that it is in fact being launched this month.

    1. I was informed with the same information the other day too, I had called up Foxtel to cancel my membership and so they did a better deal for me regarding the monthly bill, as to be able to try the iq3 when it came out this month so they wouldn’t lose me as a customer.

    1. Spot on.

Next people will be demanding that Stan should show all content, not just the content they have the rights for.

The anti siphoning list goes way too far in this country, especially against other similar countries.

  2. Late last year Telstra were set to replace their T-Box with the IQ3 but then the deal with Yahoo7 came along. Will it be T-Box Plus7 or IQ3 Plus7? If it’s the latter, some IQ3 software changes are needed. Although the software in the box can be updated remotely it would be smart to spend some extra time getting it right in the first place.

    1. Telstra are apparently working on a new T-box, so the IQ3 will not replace the T-box. Rumours are that the IQ3 will have apps for all FTA catchup services. They should have however completed testing before announcing when they would be launching, the constant delays make them look like they do not know what they are doing. Very poorly managed.

  3. Foxtel are a joke. This has been in development for several years, yet still not ready to roll out and has been delayed multiple times. So many frustrated customers that just want a box that actually works and does what it is supposed to do. We need some serious competition and allow other providers like Fetch Tv to carry Foxtel’s premium channels I.e showcase, FX and Fox 8.

    1. Couldn’t agree more that Foxtel should be forced to allow their wholly owned channels to be available on competitors services. I’m sure ACMA forces Foxtel to offer every sports network in Aust. so why not force them to allow others to offer their owned channels given they own roughly 1/3 of all STV channels. I remember reading on Fetch’s FB page that Foxtel won’t let them near FOX8, yet if FIC owned it I’m sure it wouldn’t be a problem. The Canadian govt. wouldn’t let this happen so why will ours?

  4. This is rediculous! I’ve been waiting over a year to have my faulty MyStar HD replaced and just when I thought it was all over they go and announce another delay. If anyone wants a STB that has the sound cut out of every recording and freezes once a week requiring a power restart give me a call.

    1. We have the same problem with our MyStar HD, and these delays with the IQ3 are extremely frustrating. The IQ3 has been managed terribly as have their customers.

  5. 23rd of March has been suggested on another site.

It is rather strange why they announced a date (month) and then missed it. There is no need for them to announce a date until they are ready to launch. Even if they want a gap, get ready, announce a date, do what ever is needed and then launch. Or maybe it is just part of the grand plan to build up the hype.
