Returning: Community (on Stan)

Season 6 of Community will premiere in Australian on Stan from mid March.

imageSeason 6 of US comedy series Community will premiere in Australia on Stan.

The first two new episodes will be available from Wednesday, March 18, with subsequent episodes released each Wednesday, fast-tracked from the US.

The news follows the series being axed by broadcast television before getting a new lease of life via Yahoo for 13 episodes.

Community is a smart, exuberant comedy that is consistently ranked as one of the most inventive and original shows on television. Seasons 1-5 are currently available on Stan and this critically acclaimed program has quickly become one of Stan’s most streamed shows.

This ensemble comedy is centred on a tight-knit group of friends who met at what is possibly the world’s worst educational institution – Greendale Community College. At the centre of the group is Jeff Winger (Joel McHale, The Soup), a fast-talking lawyer who was disbarred until he could earn a legitimate degree. He chose Greendale, thinking he could breeze through the mediocre school without a hitch. However, he soon found himself the reluctant leader of a disparate group of misfits, all stuck at Greendale for different reasons.

The study group includes Britta Perry (Gillian Jacobs) who dropped out of high school to “change the world” and found herself in her thirties with no marketable skills; Abed Nadir (Danny Pudi), a socially awkward but well-meaning pop culture savant; Annie Edison (Alison Brie), a highly strung perfectionist; and Ben Chang (Ken Jeong), a former Spanish teacher who is either insane or an evil genius, or both. At Greendale’s helm is Dean Pelton (Jim Rash), an administrator whose ineptitude is matched only by his love of the school and devotion to his students.

All episodes of Community will be available to stream in up to full HD, on multiple devices including TVs, smartphones, tablets and computers.

  1. Now all they need to do is increase the list of supported devices for Stan.

I have a chrome cast. I am willing to subscribe to Stan but none of our Android devices are compatible. Even the ones which are versions or higher that are meant to be supported.

  2. They have been advertising the hell out of Stan through advertorials on Mornings and The Today Show. I’ve also seen ads on None during primetime. So that 100k number is not surprising.

  3. That reminds me – someone said on another article here that “they had heard” that Stan had only 5,000 subscribers. Fairfax reported on Thursday that they’re “on track” to hit 100,000. Obviously this is during the free trial period. We’ll have a more accurate picture when we see how many pay their $10 at the end of Feb.

      1. There is a $1 pending put on your credit card when you join. I’m not sure if they notify you your free trial is about to incur a monthly fee when it nears the end. You can opt out any time during free or paid periods.

        1. They don’t. Or at least, I didn’t get one. I was expecting an email to say something of the sort and even went and checked what my billing date was this weekend only to find I had actually been billed. I didn’t even get a “hey we billed you, thanks!” email.

        1. I just checked on the US Yahoo page and it says the season 6 does not start there until March 17. Unless there have been some leaks online its unlikely to have been screened anywhere.
BTW I am keeping Stan for a little longer. It is a little underwhelming but it serves to me as a secondary streaming service to Netflix. There is enough content on it that is not on Netflex to make it worthwhile for now.
