Room reveal takes Block to the top

Ratings: With no sign of MKR, The Block, Shark Tank, Australia: The Story of Us & David Attenborough all rise.

2015-02-23_0931The Block‘s Room Reveal episode has finally secured a win for Nine, topping the night with 1.11m viewers -its best result this season.

After some under-performing numbers this year with Nine stretching out its preliminary challenges, it is a vote of confidence in the show’s core storytelling.

With no sign of MKR on Sunday night several shows saw increases last night including Shark Tank, David Attenborough and Australia: The Story of Us.

While Nine was in front on primary channel shares, Seven’s multichannels tipped them over the line.

Seven network won with 30.5% then Nine 29.7%, ABC 17.2%, TEN 17.0% and SBS 5.6%.

Seven News (1.02m) led for Seven followed by Australia: The Story of Us (945,000), My France with Manu (841,000), Downton Abbey (772,000). But Resurrection at 10:30pm failed with 112,000 and won’t survive in that timeslot.

Following The Block for Nine were Nine News (1.09m), 60 Minutes (830,000) and Movie: Skyfall (496,000).

ABC News was very strong for ABC at 959,000 viewers. David Attenborough’s Conquest of the Skies (682,000), Broadchurch (672,000), Fortitude (429,000) and Jillaroo School (372,000) followed.

Shark Tank scored its best figure so far this season at 739,000 for TEN -a good result for TEN given the show stood tall on one channel alone. TEN Eyewitness News was 502,000 and NCIS: New Orleans was 375,000 and an NCIS repeat was 275,000.

James Cameron’s Deep Sea Challenge (229,000) led for SBS ONE followed by Seven Wonders of the Buddhist World (216,000), SBS World News (195,000) and Nazi Megastructures (102,000).

ABC2’s Fireman Sam (233,000) topped multichannels.

  1. Good numbers for Shark Tank, hopefully something for TEN to build upon. Their multichannels are really letting them down though. 1.5% for ELEVEN and ONE respectively is pretty dreadful.

  2. I too am bewildered why channel 7 did not televise MKR on Sunday night, it would have been better to leave it and then put Manu’s show on Thursday nights, or why they cant televise MKR Sunday to Thursday as it appears that they have extended this series with having three teams, so would have plenty of episodes to be able to do that, and if as predicted they also have another restaurant cooking show of sorts later this year surly they are not going to follow that on immediately after MKR, also hope channel 9 don’t have three lots of the block type shows this year, to me that is really ludicrous.

  3. I don’t understand the logic behind Seven’s decision not to screen My Kitchen Rules on a Sunday night. It would have been better to have it play from Sunday-Wednesday given there are less households using television on a Thursday night. They may have given the Block a leg up not airing MKR opposite it. Will be interested to see if the Block’s numbers increase tonight after getting more viewers on the Sunday airing.

    1. I doubt The Block will improve. I, like lots of people, watch the weekly room reveal but nothing else. The room reveal is interesting; the rest of the week is boring and/or irrelevant.

  4. It’s not exactly a ringing endorsement of either The Block or I’m a Celeb… when 673k less people than last Sun watch channel 7 betw 7 & 8pm but not even 20% of those switch over to channel 9 and less than 5% make it to 10 (on any of their channels).

  5. Why wasn’t MKR on?!

I watched the pilot of Empire last night. It’s a pretty silly show. If you want something similar but far better acted watch Starz networks Power. Much much better.

        1. This was asked and answered last week. Daily ratings wraps are editorial so it is important when comparing shows that all things are equal, otherwise there is little point comparing. OzTAM rankings are still listed for total audiences.

          1. Obviously you are entitled to do what you like David, but given the numbers are available anyway, are think you should still report them.

  6. Shark Tank is Ten’s success story of 2015. They will have a strong line up next week with Empire following which will do so much better than NCIS:NO has done. Looks like another week of IACGMOH simulcats with One – sigh – makes a negligable difference when One scores 1.5% last night
