Update: Empire

Hip hop music drama will now screen as a Sunday night drama on TEN.

2015-02-05_1443TEN has made a switcheroo to its premiere for Empire before its premiere.

Originally due to screen on ELEVEN, then on TEN on Thursday February 19, it will now premiere at 10pm Sunday February 15.

As the series has not yet premiered I have resisted using the “Bumped” tag.

Musical legend Lucious Lyon has had a meteoric rise from teenage drug dealer to the head of Empire Entertainment. He credits music with saving his life and he has just taken the company public with a promise that it will be a haven for young musical artists.

When he is diagnosed with a fatal illness, Lucious announces to his three sons that he has to pick a successor, but who will it be? His youngest, the brash and commercially successful Hakeem, or his middle child the sensitive and brilliant musician Jamal, who is gay, much to Lucious’ disapproval? Or perhaps he will pick his eldest, the cool and calculating Andre, who has business sense but no musical talent.

Each of them must prove to Lucious that they have the skills to lead the company, before he makes his decision. Things become further complicated when Lucious ex-wife, Cookie, is released from prison and demands half the company.

  1. Dear Channel 10,
You have America’s No.1 new show of the season (Empire) that has had audience increases week after week that has not been seen in the last 20 years and you are dumping it on Sunday 10pm! Its premiering in 10 days and I am still yet to see a promotion for it on your network or anything about it on your website. Seriously? Stop putting all your eggs in one basket. Your celebrity audience has halved since its premiere. Stop making stupid decisions!!

  2. 10pm Is hardly a great premiere time slot, but then I guess with reality shows running so late they must wait until late for everyone to switch over, trouble is we may all be asleep. Perhaps they would have been better to stick with Thursday.

  3. Ugh again Ten are making stupid decisions. I read somewhere else they are airing Elementary at 10pm Mondays

This is the most fun show airing on TV right now with an amazing soundtrack and ratings rising every week in the US, the most recent episode getting 11.32 million viewers and a 4.3 in the demo. They have no faith in it before it even airs. Perhaps racist?

  4. This is crazy. The number 1 new US show of the season…. I don’t understand why Ten don’t just upgrade this to 8.30 Thursday – 10pm Sunday is a very silly slot.

  5. I think they would have been better off leaving it for Eleven if they are going to give it such a poor timeslot. A repeat of NCIS would surely pull better numbers here after New Orleans.
