The former partner of racing champ Peter Brock, has spoken out against TEN’s upcoming telemovie The Peter Brock Story, after selling the rights to his biography to another production company.

Bev Brock, who was partner to the racing legend for 28 years, wrote the book in 2004, but yesterday told Triple M’s Grill Team, “I had a number of production companies get in touch with me to get the rights to the book.

“I ended up signing up with a company who wants to do either a telemovie or a tele miniseries. It all sounded really good,” she said.

“And then I hear this show is being promo’d and it’s Channel TEN’s big show of the year. But it happens to be with one of the ones we’re not involved with.”

Asked if she was nervous about the Shine Australia project she said, “Ooh yes. Well yes it’s the one that did the INXS story, which is a little bit sensationalist and that’s what I find concerning.

“Because people love a bit of titillation and I’ve got to tell you it’s really sad because the vast majority of it is absolute bullshit!”

TEN announced the drama at its 2014 Upfronts but it is understood to yet have funding through Screen Australia, with final script or casting still to be completed. TEN hopes to have the drama on air in the second half of 2015.

Shine has been prolific in the bio-drama area of late. INXS: Never Tear Us Apart had approval and full music rights from all surviving members of INXS, with rave reviews and bumper ratings. It has also produced Catching Milat, and Peter Allen: Not the Boy Next Door is in production.

Shine Australia declined to comment pending funding approval while TEN did not respond by deadline.

  1. Like all stories told of famous folk after their passing….there will be many remembering in many different ways…many differing points of view…

  2. I will not be watching Catching Milat. Enough with serial killers and glamorization of violence (Underbelly, Criminal Minds..none of these shows are good)

  3. Yes Bev did deed poll her last name, that in it;s self says volumes. I think having a doco from others view would be more on the money as this relationship was odd and the part of Peter leaving and hooking up with the neighbour, wow.
