Former Media Watch producer Jo Puccini has been appointed as the new Executive Producer of 7:30, to take over from Sally Neighbour in April.

Puccini joined the ABC as a researcher in 2000, leading to roles as a producer on Four Corners, executive producer on Media Watch and associate producer on Lateline. In 2012 she joined 7:30 as commissioning editor before being appointed founding Editor of the National Reporting Team. She is joint winner of three Walkley Awards for excellence.

ABC Director of News Kate Torney said: “Jo is one of our finest editorial leaders and has a very strong journalistic track record.

“Under her leadership the National Reporting Team has become a vital part of ABC News, further developing our investigative capacity and delivering original reporting for television, radio and digital news audiences across the nation.”

Puccini said: “I am excited and honoured to be taking over as Executive Producer at 7.30. I look forward to working with Leigh Sales and the team to continue to deliver the agenda-setting journalism, analysis and interviews the program’s audience expects.”

Torney also thanked Sally Neighbour for her three years as Executive Producer, as she leaves for Four Corners.

“Sally’s strong focus on investigative journalism, must-see interviews and compelling story-telling has ensured that 7.30 continues to lead the national news agenda,” she said.

A new National Reporting Team Editor is yet to be announced.
