Emmys gives ok for one-hour comedies
Jane the Virgin, Shameless and Glee will be eligible for Emmy's Comedy category after all.

Just weeks after announcing Comedies submitted to the Emmy Awards must be thirty minutes long, the TV Academy has now given the all clear for three one hour comedies to compete in the category.
Apparently it left the door open for comedies to argue their case before a panel.
Jane the Virgin, Shameless and Glee will now be eligible as Comedy contenders.
Each will compete in the comedy category for best series and all other awards, including performer, writer, director, etc.
That’s probably bad news for Please Like Me which would have stood a better nominations shot against half-hour comedies.
There’s no word on the prospects of Orange is the New Black, which is said to be still pending panel consideration.

That all makes a lot of sense. I wonder if they will make a similar (but opposite) change to the drama category so that 30 minute dramas like “Nurse Jackie” can be considered for best drama instead of best comedy ?
I’m not familiar with Shameless, but completely agree that Glee and Jane the Virgin are comedies. OITNB I’m not sure…
I understand needing to specify what shows could compete as dramas/comedies, but length of episodes cannot be the deciding factor. They should probably have a dramedy category but then that too could be open to interpretation and protesting.
I love Shameless. But it aint no comedy.
