EXCLUSIVE: Much-loved SBS food presenter Maeve O’Meara is on the comeback trail filming a new Food Safari series for SBS.
The longest-running locally produced food brand on SBS, Food Safari has been absent from our screens for 2 years. But its 7th series, provisionally titled Food Safari Fire, is in production meeting locals through the culture of cuisine.
O’Meara tells TV Tonight, “We are delighted to be back in the backyards and kitchens of the real Australia, charting how different cuisines use flame and fire, smoke and ancient cooking devices to create the best dishes from home.
“It’s a sheer joy to be the bridge between worlds…to join three or four generations of a family in cooking and sitting down to enjoy the results. This is an interesting spin on food across the many cuisines on our doorstep. Every country uses fire but in so many different ways.
“Australia is going to love looking at different ways to fire up the barbie, new spice mixes to use as marinades, new techniques and simply delicious and achievable results.”
O’Meara notches up an impressive 25 years with SBS this year, with Food Safari first airing in 2006.

Agree the only food show I ever watched down to earth
Great! I love Food Safari. They’ve left it just long enough for a whole stack on new restaurants and chefs to visit.
