If you’ve ever been intrigued by the mythology of the Loch Ness Monster, The Missing Evidence  is promising to go deep, tonight on SBS.

Tales of a monster haunting Loch Ness go back for nearly 1500 years but only in the last century did the legend take-off. Since the 1930’s over one thousand eye-witnesses have had their stories seemingly backed up by mysterious photographs, videos and unexplained sonar targets. The evidence is tantalising but never definitive. At St Andrew’s University, Dr Charles Paxton, an expert on large marine creatures has compiled a unique database of every sighting ever made. Detailed analysis of this astonishing database finally explains the truth behind the Loch Ness Monster.

In the most detailed exploration of the myth yet undertaken, Missing Evidence uses modern forensic technology to re-examine iconic photos and footage. We learn how the hopes of finding a surviving dinosaur were dashed by a hoax that fooled the world; we visit the world’s most sophisticated wave lab to explain the sighting of multiple humped monsters on Loch Ness, and we join fabled Nessie hunter Adrian Shine as he recounts his epic decade’s long search for the elusive beast.

8:30pm tonight on SBS ONE.
