Upcoming SBS drama The Principal, starring Alex Dimitriades and Aden Young, will have its premiere in Paris next month at the annual Series Mania television festival.

Nine drama Gallipoli has also been selected for showcase in its international premiere.

ABC comedies Utopia –retitled as Dreamland outside Australia- and Please Like Me will also play in the Comedy section. For the Josh Thomas comedy it marks the first time the festival has selected a second season for screening.

International Artistic Advisor, François-Pier Pelinard-Lambert, tells TV Tonight, “The quality of Please Like Me is so impressive that it was not hard to make this decision.”

ABC’s Secret River and Maximum Choppage are also selected in the Professional Window section, showcasing the best of contemporary drama to prospective French and European buyers.

“Series Mania has a long tradition of welcoming Aussie dramas. In the recent years, we had shows like The Slap, Tangle, Redfern Now, Puberty Blues, Janet King, Love Child or Please Like Me. Last year, we had the world premiere of the Devil’s Playground with Simon Burke coming to Paris to introduce the show,” says Pelinard-Lambert.

“Selection was again tough as the palette of Australian dramas is varied and tempting.”

Series Mania, which last year attracted 20,000 spectators and more than 2000 professionals, will take place from April 17 to April 24 in Paris at le Forum des Images.
