Darren and Dee have won The Block: Triple Threat after selling their apartment for a whopping $2.29m -an all time record for the show.

With the additional $100,000 prize they took home $935,000.

It was a record auction for the South Yarra property as all four properties sold in the show’s 10th season.

A staggering $3.165m was given away in the grand final, the largest sum total in a single episode on Australian television. Nine claims it is a world record. Wikipedia lists $2.522m given away in a champion run on Jeopardy in the US.

The bumper auction was in contrast to The Block: The Glasshouse in which Darren & Dee were one of two teams who walked away with just $10,000.

  1. There was an interesting article on the reserve prices in “The Age” today. It said that the producers bought the unrenovated building for 5.7M and that the total of the reserves of the renovated apartments being auctioned was $5.6M ( $100,000 less )

  2. After the debarcles of previous seasons they set low reserves. With apartment prices falling in Melbourne in Q1 they would otherwise have made a loss.

  3. The reserves were set off the architect plans of the apartment floorpans before any internal work or decoration. So, given that the reserves are probably in line with what was presented to the valuer at the time. If they were set post reno, no doubt they would have been considerably higher. I do struggle though with the mindset of someone who would invest 2 mill plus on an apartment that was hastily built in ten week by amateurs.

  4. How absolutely gross that they were allowed to come back and win so much money – surely all ‘all stars’ at this point should be donating their wins to charity? Or how you get some fresh blood on the show instead of just giving money away to the same half dozen contestants who come back every other series until they’ve won enough?
It’s like watching a long game of greedy pig!

  5. Very happy D&D won… they’re apartment was stunning and if I had the money I would have purchased it… the one thing that was ridiculous last night was the amount of advertisements… at one point a group of ads went for 5:29 (minutes). God help us on Monday night with the My Kitchen Rules Grand Final.

    1. Yes, the number of advertisements during the breaks was ridiculous.
Think I counted around 9 or 10 ads in a row at one stage.

Really happy with the outcome – D&D definitely deserved the win.
Their apartment was head and shoulders above the rest in quality – so elegant and stylish.
Say what you will about Deanne, she is a very talented designer, presenting some absolutely beautiful rooms and unlike some other contestants on the show, Daz is a damn hard worker.
Dea has come across a whole lot better this year – she is almost a saint compared to the tantrums and childish antics of Anasatasia.

The top 2 apartments were definitely the pick of the bunch.

  6. A couple of millionaires making another million?

Good to see that a couple who behaved so badly last season continue to behave like obnoxious knobs and be rewarded so handsomely for it.

What a great message that sends to the kids out there.

And I am sure the majority of viewers watching this rotten show cheered on the winning couples while stressing out over the mortgage or rent bills.

Now I look forward to the 2 night MKR finale. Well actually the finale has already started. You can’t watch any program on Seven right now without being subjected to MKR promos.

Australian television – getting worse and worse.

  7. Disappointing to see the Jollys win. No idea why 9 brought them back this season after the way they carried on last year. Tim and Anastasia shouldn’t have even been there after having to borrow money to finish their apartment.
Nine need to give the renovation shows a rest. Two series of The Block plus Reno Rumble in one year is overkill. Masterchef will be a welcome change. A cooking show actually based on cooking.

  8. Good to see them make money, but in my opinion the reserves were set too low. An ordinary 40 sqm apartment is around $250-300000. Also I do not like this phone bidding, it is getting routine now to see the same agent bidding for others.

  9. Absoutely disgusted to see millionaires D & D win (especially after their behaviour & egos). I was so excited for everyone else. What a great result for them.
