Airdate: The Other One: The Long, Strange Trip of Bob Weir

Netflix will launch the documentary, The Other One: The Long, Strange Trip of Bob Weir, in May.

The winner of the 2014 Audience Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival, provides a revelatory look at Bob Weir and the Grateful Dead, directed by Mike Fleiss.

“Mike Fleiss was given unprecedented access to create an intimate and compelling film about one of the most prolific, respected and beloved musicians of our time,” said Lisa Nishimura, Netflix VP of Original Documentary and Comedy. “We are proud to bring Bob’s story to his fans around the world on the eve of the Dead’s final shows at Soldier Field in Chicago.”

“We certainly unearthed a lot of buried treasure from the Grateful Dead archive while making this film,” said filmmaker, Mike Fleiss. “With Netflix, we have found the perfect global partner to tell the fascinating life story of Bob Weir set against the backdrop of America’s greatest rock band.”

From director Mike Fleiss (The Bachelor, God Bless Ozzy Osbourne), producer Marc Weingarten (God Bless Ozzy Osbourne) and executive producers Martin Hilton (The Bachelor) and Justin Kreutzmann (In the Attic with Pete Townshend & Friends), The Other One: The Long, Strange Trip of Bob Weir, which made its world debut at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival, chronicles Weir’s journey from Palo Alto youth to global success as a member of one of the world’s most influential and popular bands. With a special emphasis on his brotherhood with Jerry Garcia and ample musical performances and archival footage, The Other One features interviews with bandmates, colleagues, fans, family and Bob Weir himself.

The Other One: The Long, Strange Trip of Bob Weir is created, directed and produced by Mike Fleiss, produced by Marc Weingarten, and executive produced by Martin Hilton and Justin Kreutzmann.
