HBO has given a series order to Divorce, a single-camera comedy starring Sarah Jessica-Parker (the name isn’t exactly upbeat).

It marks her first major TV acting commitment since Sex and the City.

Written by Irish writer-actress Sharon Horgan, Divorce tells the story of a very, very long divorce. It centres on Frances (Parker), a New Yorker who suddenly begins to reassess her life and her marriage, and finds that making a clean break and a fresh start is harder than she thought.

Also starring are Thomas Haden Church, Molly Shannon and Talia Balsam. Flight Of The Conchords‘ own Jemaine Clement guest starred in the pilot.

Parker will be an executive producer along with Horgan, Paul Simms and Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment.

  1. “Sarah Jessica-Parker ….a New Yorker who suddenly begins to reassess her life and her marriage, and finds that making a clean break and a fresh start is harder than she thought.”

So, ten years on from the final season of SATC, SJP is playing Carrie Bradshaw six years on from SATC2.
