It’s not just Game of Thrones being plundered by pirates, but Marvel’s Daredevil too.

A week ago Netflix unveiled its latest superhero series starring Charlie Cox.

They released the full series in Australia as the same time as the US, including for those enjoying a free first month of streaming video.

According to Variety, there have been 2.1 million individual users that have downloaded episodes of the show worldwide via torrent networks.

Brazil led all territories on piracy, with 190,274 torrent downloaders over the last week.

The next biggest countries were India (149,316), the U.S. (144,351), the U.K. (119,891), France (105,473) and Australia (101,025). Except for India, Netflix currently offers streaming in each territory.

2.1m torrents is still well behind GoT’s 6.5m for the same period, but the latter also includes past seasons.

  1. I watched Daredevil over the course of a week and really enjoyed it. I must admit i was also impressed with the video quality of the Netflix stream ($11.99 plan). Maybe people who are downloading it live in areas where the speed or quality of their internet connection doesn’t allow for HD streaming? Just out of curiosity, why is downloading a TV show considered piracy but recording it on a DVR to keep is never mentioned?

    1. Downloading is usually referred to mean sourcing from illegal methods, such as BitTorrent. This differs from recording to PVR via the legal source such as a broadcaster. When VCRs were invented copyright law allowed for one copy for personal use, much like photoopying 10% of a book. It did not mean you could burn Underbelly DVDs and sell them. Of course strictly speaking you are downloading when you stream video to your laptop or watch iview, so the term is quite complicated. As is trying to approve comments when the context about downloading is unclear!

  2. I actually watched the whole season in two days on Netflix. Although I can’t say I would’ve waited for it to be available another legal way if we didn’t have Netflix.

  3. Considering Netflix is on a 30 day free trial in Australia, I think it goes to show that too many people are just in the habit of using torrents and illegal downloads to watch their conent.

    1. yeah it sucks. I am loving the hell out of Daredevil and really don’t mind paying the 8.99. They do need to give us more content though, compared to US we’re like the bottom of the food chain…
