It’s game on once again in the TV ratings.

With the Easter non-ratings done and dusted, networks hit the pedal last night with premium content.

There was a battle for early evening viewers, with The Block taking the fight up to My Kitchen Rules.

MKR won in total viewers on 1.28m viewers -its lowest figures so far this season, but The Block won the key demos for the first time over its rival. The Block strategically coded into two titles (Room Reveal: 1.11m / Sun: 1.08m). Seven’s cooking contest also failed to retain its #1 title, pipped by the network’s own news.

Seven network won the night with a 32.3% then Nine 30.0%, ABC 16.1%, TEN 15.3% and SBS 6.3%.

Seven News was the night’s top show at 1.32m viewers then MKR (1.28m) and Sunday Night‘s ANZAC special (785,000). Castle was 471,000 / 307,000) and Cougar Town was 115,000.

60 Minutes was best for Nine (1.19m) then Nine News (1.19m), The Block (1.11m / 1.08m) and Stalker (577,000). The Following returned to 209,000 and Almost Human was 76,000.

ABC News (845,000) was best for ABC. Poldark debuted at 649,000, higher than Inside the Commons (521,000).  Compass was 330,000 and Fortitude was 324,000.

Modern Family (549,000 / 515,000) led for TEN. Shark Tank was 527,000, TEN Eyewitness News was 366,000, NCIS: New Orleans was 342,000 but Empire was just 120,000.

On SBS ONE it was Rome: The World’s First Superpower (331,000), SBS World News (205,000), Jesus: Rise to Power (203,000) and Singapore 1942 – End of an Empire (124,000). Paris-Roubaix 2015 was 57,000 in 4 cities.

A rebooted Thunderbirds are Go! topped multichannels at 205,000.

  1. I think MKR has been dragged out fort too long! Don’t watch it but 7 have the worst programming with mostly drama shows on and off, inconsistent start times and alternating single and double episodes!

  2. Quite surprised at the low figures for Sunday Night but maybe its that Gallipoli fatigue once again.

I would of watched Empire live if it was only a single ep but because of the double it got chucked on the PVR – I’m sure 10 wanted that not

  3. Unfortunately Ten has lost a lot of the momentum it built up with I’m A Celeb. Ten really should have had The Bachelorette ready to go or launched Masterchef. It seems Ten doesn’t want to launch Masterchef up against MKR but at this rate it may have no choice as MKR seems like it will never end.
Shark Tank is fabulous TV. Empire got off to a slow start but has developed into a great hour of entertainment thanks to Ms Cookie. It is unfortunate more people haven’t tuned in.

  4. Sadly, there are some great shows on TV – mostly on Ten, and including Empire, Wonderland, The Good Wife etc – that are being completely swamped ratings-wise by the reality rubbish currently being served up on Nine and Seven, and the cringe-comedy they’re producing on Two.
MKR’s success is way out of proportion with the content of the show, and The Block isn’t far behind in the completely-annoying stakes!

  5. Poldark is a show within a genre that I wouldn’t normally watch but gave it a try and found the leading actor very good as was the chemistry between him and the leading lady who married someone else. Not sure how long I will continue with it due to the genre but so far there is enough to give it another go next week.

    1. Yes, same here. Not a big fan of this genre normally but really enjoyed the first ep.
Pleasant Sunday night viewing without being too deep or demanding.
Yes, Aidan is perfect as Poldark – there have been specultion by some in the media that he was cast purely for his “dashing good looks” – a “pretty boy” without much substance but I really think he’s proved them wrong here.
He is really, really good as Ross.
Am finding his ex girlfriend who married someone else is a bit drippy though.

Quite cliched – lots of meaningful, lingering glances between characters, dramatic riding along the clifftops and brooding gazing out to sea.
      But definitely well worth watching.

  6. Empire is great!! Those who aren’t watching are missing out on one of the better shows this year. Easily in my top 3 favourite new shows next to daredevil and The Flash

  7. I’m disappointed about Shark Tank. Taking it off for a week didn’t do it any favours. Great show last night, even if there was only 3 pitches. David, do you think TEN could be dragging it out further than planned?

  8. I gave all three of new dramas on Nine a go last night, but looking at those figures it seems likely I will have wasted my time, as Nine will probably drop at least two of them. Hopefully they pull a Seven and keep them in an 11:30pm slot somewhere.

Really enjoying Empire as well. Didn’t think I would, but it’s my favourite new show of the last 12 months.

  9. NCIS:NO and Empire both gone from primetime Sunday on those numbers. Ten’s original decision to play Empire on Eleven appears to have been correct.

    1. I’ve stopped watching NCIS:NO a few eps ago for the time being. Whereas I didn’t mind the lead I just didn’t really warm to any of the supporting characters nor was the storyline really grabbing me to continue watching. That’s not to say if new characters are introduced or changes are made that I may return. It wouldn’t be that hard to pick up at a later date.

  10. Not good numbers for Stalker .. A very big drop off after 60 minutes .. But I don’t remember seeing any ads for it or the following but saying that watched stalker and enjoyed it

  11. Seven news won the night due to AFL football lead in in Melbourne giving huge news audience in that city. Shows the power of sport and why the rights to football and cricket are hotly contested
