UK actor Philip Glenister, who appeared in Life on Mars, is rumoured to replace Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear.

British media speculate the Glenister, who played Gene Hunt on Life on Mars, is the bookies favourite. But don’t bet on it just yet….

Glenister is a vocal car enthusiast and is about to present the second series of For the Love of Cars on Channel 4.

But a spokesperson for bookie William Hill suggests, “The betting landscape on who will present Top Gear has really changed – from betting on who will replace Clarkson, it now looks like we are betting on three brand new hosts.

“Although it sounds like BBC bosses are considering Philip Glenister, he is one of possibly hundreds of names they will be considering.”

The future of Richard Hammond and James May remains unclear, with both men’s Top Gear contracts having run out.

The BBC declined to comment on the speculation.

  1. If the three of them front a new show could be a chance for Ten to add to its motor sports stable, seeing it will not be branded Top Gear and be on another network.

    1. I wouldn’t call showing half of the F1 races and only 6 of the V8 Supercars events “a motor sports stable”. More like a corrugated iron lean-to that just happens to have a couple of horses in it.

      1. Yep there are a lot of V8 and F1 fans pissed at TEN right now.

David did we have a story how this came about and why TEN felt the need to sell off part of it’s live coverage, was it just down to what they could afford?
