Kevin Whately and Laurence Fox reprise their roles as the detectives renowned for investigating Oxford’s most complex murders, alongside Angela Griffin as Detective Sergeant Lizzie Maddox.

The arrival of a new Chief Superintendent heralds a fresh dawn for Oxfordshire Police, although the high flyer soon clashes with Robbie Lewis (Kevin Whately) over the latter’s more traditional approach to detective work. With forensic pathologist Laura Hobson (Clare Holman) contemplating early retirement, and the new boss piling on the pressure, will Lewis finally decide to call time on his policing career?

Meanwhile, after years of avoiding the thorny issue of family ties, Hathaway (Laurence Fox) is forced to confront his past.

ITV’s Director of Drama Steve November said, “We are delighted that Kevin and Laurence are returning for a ninth series of Lewis. Each story is complex and intriguing and Detectives Robbie Lewis and James Hathaway are a formidable partnership much loved by ITV viewers. I am also pleased to welcome back Angela Griffin as DS Lizzie Maddox.”

Executive Producer Michele Buck added: “I am thrilled to be making a ninth series of Lewis, one of ITV’s best-loved drama’s. Against the beautiful backdrop of Oxford, Lewis and Hathaway will once again investigate the city’s darkest crimes.”

The new series will go into production in May 2015.

The series airs in Australia on Seven.

  1. I have thoroughly enjoyed the Lewis series. Prior to series 7 Fox in particular was saying he would like to move on and in series 8 he was languid and appeared not quite in the moment (and there was a brief replacement). By then Whately was saying similarly. I’ve not seen series 8 as yet but I hope they both picked up a little and are really embracing what may be the last run of a classic and classy series. I’d love to go to Oxford, just to walk the places I have seen so often on screen.
