Seven shelves post-Logies party

First world problems as Seven cuts back on the Logie celebrations this year.

Logies parties are just about as legendary as the Awards themselves, but this year Seven will not be holding their annual shindig.

News Corp reports the decision was “driven by efficiencies” with a focus on putting money into its upcoming telethon for Ronald McDonald House in May. Seven stars will instead be directed to the TV Week foyer party which is sponsored by Foxtel.

Seven’s event is normally held at Crown Metropol (plus a Monday brunch), while Nine parties on at Club 23 and TEN at Crown Promenade. ABC folk usually gather at a nearby hotel. All guest lists are strictly monitored to avoid excessive numbers and gatecrashers. Some limit the time media can attend, but it is generally viewed as an “off the record” night.

Nevertheless there have been post-Logie headlines for some celebs such as Dieter Brummer being arrested after a security scuffle (he was later ordered to pay a $500 fine but avoided criminal conviction) and over the years there have been scurrilous rumours of drug-taking in the loos -including during the event itself.

But with cost-cuts across much of the media landscape it seems this year Seven stars will have to make their own merriment.

As a TEN spokesperson confirmed, “The Logies cost the networks a lot of money,” she said. “It’s a massive expense. Flying everyone in from around the country and booking hotels.”

Methinks the likely story this year will now be: Which Seven stars got turned away from Nine and TEN parties?

  1. Agree with YK, spend money on more worthy causes, think the Logies is one big farce these days, certainly not as interesting as it was a few years ago, and certainly does not draw the amount of viewers it used to. Haven’t watched for several years, same old stories over and over again, everyone thanks their wives/husbands, producers cast etc. and once you have heard it once don’t want to keep hearing repeats.

    1. Not to mention the same old nominations year after year, half of which you’ve never heard of. The Gold Logie is the biggest farce of all (the same nominations), and demonstrates what a paucity of home-grown shows there are. Hamish Blake & Andy Lee? Have they done anything in the past year, I don’t remember. Carrie keeps plugging on, Asher’s there again, Scott Cam (!) and someone (of course) from Home & Away.

I imagine there’d be nil interest in that line-up, nothing new at all.

  2. Can they go to other Network’s parties or only their own? Some people are on shows from more than one network. I used to think it was one big party that everyone went to. You used to see Neighbours & Home & Away stars mingling together. The guy who played Casey in Home & Away has also been in Hiding on ABC and is in the new Love Child series on Ch 9.
