Masterchef, Love Child overpower Seven.

Ratings: Seven's evening line-up almost saw it land in third place for the night.

After a lacklustre start to the week on Sunday Nine is fighting back, with strong performances on Monday and Tuesday.

Seven’s evening line-up let down the network with shows in third place behind TEN, with the latter topping the night with MasterChef at 1.2m viewers. TEN almost overtook Seven for the night in network shares.

If this keeps up it could be time for Seven to bring in fan favourites such as Winners and Losers but it would have to take on Love Child in the process.

Nine network won Tuesday with 29.1% then Seven 24.5%, TEN 24.2%, ABC 15.9% and SBS 6.3%.

Nine News (1.19m / 1.13m) led the night for Nine then A Current Affair (1.08m), Love Child (932,000), Reno Rumble (828,000), Hot Seat (688,000) and a repeat of Married at First Sight (445,000).

Seven News (1.08m / 1.06m) was best for Seven then Home and Away (854,000), House Rules (759,000), Million Dollar Minute (533,000), and Ramsays Kitchen Nightmares (510,000 / 447,000). Grey’s Anatomy was 151,000.

MasterChef Australia was very strong at 1.2m for TEN. NCIS was 752,000, TEN Eyewitness News was 630,000, The Project was 616,000 / 489,000, NCIS: LA was 507,000 / 254,000.

ABC News (874,000) topped ABC’s night then 7:30 (692,000), Foreign Correspondent (649,000), Slow Train Through Africa with Griff Rhys Jones (622,000), Kevin McCloud’s Man Made Home (377,000) and Antiques Roadshow (351,000).

On SBS ONE it was Queen Victoria’s Children (330,000) followed by Insight (270,000), Dateline (172,000) and SBS World News (140,000).

Neighbours was best on multichannels at 280,000.

  1. I’m really enjoying Love Child. But not happy that they recast Lincoln Younes as Mandy McElinney’s son. He speaks more like a young person does today, rolling his words rather than annunciating. Hugo Johnstone-Burt who played him last year, seemed much more of the era, plus he resembled Mandy more. Why did they make the recast, was it because of Lincolns star power or was Hugo unavailable?

  3. Where is the rise in viewers for House Rules coming from? MC is still at 1.2m after three consecutive Tuesdays and Reno Rumble still around 800K. Maybe a slight drop in ABC Numbers? roughly one hundred thousand viewers isn’t a major change, but just curious.

  5. Love Child deserves those good ratings.
    Have found the second series excellent so far – better than Season 1.
    Last night’s ep was especially good – so poignant.

    1. Totally agree Angela. I don’t watch anything else on Nine other than Love Child. It is one of the best dramas in recent years. I love they way the have recreated the era, and the storylines and acting are great.

      1. Yes Gaz, they have done a great job recreating the vibe of that era.
        All the actors are excellent but Mandy McElhinney as the Matron, Miranda Tapsell as Martha and Ella Scott Lynch as Shirley are standouts.

    1. 7 seem very reluctant to programme season 2. I’m waiting for the DVD release in America and I’ll get it then.
      Last year season 1 was released in August but no (DVD) release date has been announced for S2.

      1. At 6pm, Family Feud last night 699K on three channels.
        At 6.30pm, Project 489K, Neighbours 280K, Mash 163K. All up that’s 932K.
        I guess this is why FF is still roadblocked across the Ten Network…

        1. And if FF was not simulcast – it would still be 699k for Family Feud on Ten + another 150k or so on other two channels watching alternative content – would be better for Ten not to simulcast.

          Show’s been around long enough now – anyone who wants to watch it will watch it on the channel it airs on.

  10. Yes Nine did well seeing an opportunity and getting Love Child on Tuesdays. It’s left them with 2 eps of this season of TBBT sitting around.
