20 Comments:

  1. The bubble still hasn’t burst for Married At First Sight, although I expect that to happen over the coming weeks. 1.1 million is excellent for it’s second episode, but will it be able to retain those ratings? Only time will tell.

Surely Nine must be a bit concerned that Married At First Sight is rating considerably higher than Reno Rumble, despite the fact that it is airing at a later timeslot?

  2. Watched Master-Chef on 10.
    Then recordings.
Recorded: Undercover Boss at 8:30 to view later that night.
Recorded Revenge on 7 for my wife.
    Recorded Elementary on 10.
Recorded Touch of Frost on 72.
Glad Master-Chef is beating MAFS. Hope that rubbish sinks fast 🙁 Glad my wife is not watching it – so that I don’t have to pollute my lovely recorders. 😉

  3. What David is saying is that we (Melbourne) are a more cultured city. Not sure we are more intelligent though (considering the numbers of people who watch Renovation and Marriage shows)…

There’s always a few rotten apples that spoil the lot (in this case 422,000)

    • No that’s not what I have said. I have indicated shows historically gain more viewers in Melbourne for a variety of reasons. Saying one city likes arts / sport does not make it more cultured than another. It’s saying it likes arts / sport.

  4. Last night’s 4 Corners was unwatchable in Melbourne’s north due to pixelating. When they finally fixed it, the lip-syc was about ten seconds out. Appalling.

    • Sometimes problems happen, even at the ABC. The qualifications of people in operations are not as good these days as they used to be. Cost cutting. In my days you had to have a Broadcast Operators certificate and other technical qualifications to run operational areas. Standards are slipping for all networks but then again equipment may have gone faulty – so a standby Tech may have had to be called in 🙁 Can happen to any network though ).

  5. bettestreep2008

No wonder Nine has gone for a 2nd series of Marriage at first sight.

2 weeks of 1m plus ratings has confirmed it as a hit. I don’t watch it but those ratings are impressive.

  6. Anyone know what’s happening with MasterChef’s ratings in Sydney recently?

    Brisbane’s not growing.

It’s smashing it in Melbourne, also doing very well in Adelaide & Perth.

Still won its time-slot in Melbourne & Sydney.

I guess Sydney just isn’t/doesn’t watch as much TV?

Again, surprised by Married At First Sight! Even though different time-slot, was Hughes than MasterChef at 8:30pm in Melbourne & slightly Sydney 😀

    • Shows that appeal to foodies always do well in Melbourne.
Nobody travelling on Sydney’s trains or freeways gets home in time to watch much TV.

      • It’s not genre specific to Melbourne. Most shows perform better in Melbourne than Sydney. Likely due to Foxtel having better penetration in Sydney, Melbourne has cooler weather, big appreciation for arts / sport (whether it is significantly higher than Syd is debatable).

        • It’s just MasterChef is doing so well in the ratings, yet Sydney’s ratings seem to have dropped and it’s unusuall for a key program (reality) to do so well in the ratings, yet Sydney be so far behind Melbourne (that’s their lowest so far)!

I guess all those factors contribute, certainly Melbourne tends to dominate TV things!

I mean for the Nine Network, beginning in Sydney and always being a strong Sydney network, does do great with Nine News Melbourne. A couple of years ago, it was attracting 500-600k some nights!

Seeing as Seven and Ten bargain in Melbourne and had always aimed programming towards Melbourne, like the AFL. Especially Seven when it use to dominate Melbourne & Sydney’s news.

          • Masterchef is consistently rating over 1 million viewers. Not sure what all this concern is about. That is better than it has been for 3 or 4 years now. I think the show does well because it appeal to a wide spread of age groups and gender. Aiming program’s at only women has worked for 7 but can be like playing with fire if 2 networks do it. Ten is enjoying the sideshow battle whilst it is re-gaining it’s rightful and deserved place as a Network. 🙂
