In its second week Nine’s Married at First Sight has again hit 1.1m viewers and a win in its timeslot. To lift by some 370,00 viewers from its Reno Rumble makes it even more impressive -how high would it go with a stronger lead-in?

It makes up for the lesser performance on Sunday against Seven.

Nine network won with 28.9% then Seven 26.0%, TEN 21.2%, ABC 17.9% and SBS 6.0%.

    1. ABC had some technical difficulties last night. Media Watch was unwatchable in Sydney and I know there were issues in other cities across the night.

          1. Didn’t watch q&a last night so not sure what happened when media watch finished.

          2. We had glitching and then replays of Four Corners in the middle of Media Watch. There was an apology on the ABC Facebook page about it all.

  1. can someone explain how last week overnight ratings for married at first sight was about 1.1 then at the end of the week it dropped to the high 800,000’s. how does that happen and can it happen this week?

    1. Yes it’s a big number to adjust for preliminary. I have asked Nine. There was a coding error for the Friday repeat, which dragged down the weekly number. The Monday episode actually went up after adjustments.

      1. The social experiment and the ceremonies are just gimmicks to get people in. They filtered 1000 applicants and picked 8 attractive, stable people they could throw together on the basis of vague hunches and let nature take its course.

It’s all about getting to know the participants, watching them getting to know each other to see if they get on and finally if they are still together after the 30 days. That will keep people watching for a couple of weeks to find out.

    2. Yeah. Have to wonder whether that’s going to happen again for the 2nd ep. Kinda makes a mockery of a system where you can splash the headlines that your show got ratings of 1.1M because 800-and-something thousand doesn’t quite have the same punch.

It must be really difficult for TV programmers having no idea how long their shows go for and always having them run past their advertised times and then having to adjust the ratings after the publicity releases celebrating their big numbers. Poor things.

      1. I think you’ve got the wrong end of the stick here secret squirrel. The show did rate 1.1 million – the adjusted figure of 800 was wrong. So the networks and publicists were right to celebrate a good result.

    1. Elementary is on too late. I love the show but really can’t stay up that late to watch it. Better to record it and watch it at a better time.

  2. Since I rubbished it my comments before, it’s only right that I admit I was wrong about Married at First Sight being a flop. I was only going to say something after the second week though. Thankfully I was right about When Love Comes to Town.

    1. Good to be up front. I mentioned in my review the legals were sketchy but the individuals would still allow viewers to connect. Be interesting to see how it fares without the ceremonies from here on.

    2. +1, I was coming to say the same thing – I was convinced it would begin to fail now… Not my taste, but I guess it is appeals to some people!!
