Rachel Griffiths is joining the second season of UK drama Indian Summers, which was renewed by the Channel 4 in early March.
She will play a mysterious Australian mistress of Maharaja Maritpur (Art Malik) who has a surprising past.
The drama, currently screening in Australia on BBC First, stars Julie Walters as the doyenne of the expats Royal Club in India, where British power-brokers are posted to govern during the summer months.
Also joining the second season are James Fleet (Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Hollow Crown) as Lord Hawthorne, whose surprise arrival heralds change at the highest level of administration.
Also cast are Nikesh Pate, Arjun Mathur, Blake Ritson.
“I can’t wait to get back to the old girl! There’s some fantastic stuff to come in this series and Cynthia’s naughtiness goes up several notches,” said Walters.
Filming is underway in Malaysia with the series returning in 2016.
