UK sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf has been renewed for two more seasons.
It has been renewed for its eleventh and twelfth seasons, at a total of 12 new episodes for 2016 and 2017.
Cast members Chris Barrie, Craig Charles, Danny John-Jules and Robert Llewellyn will reprise their roles.
Co-creator Doug Naylor is returning as writer while Richard Naylor and Kerry Waddell are series producers, and Simon Lupton and Henry Normal will executive produce.
Red Dwarf originally aired from 1988 to 1999 on BBC but Dave, owned by UKTV, revived it in 2009 for 3 parts, followed by a full series.
“Steve North and everyone at UKTV have been so supportive of Red Dwarf from the start of their involvement with the show”, said series co-creator Doug Naylor. “Steve originally asked for more shows back in 2012 but frustratingly it’s taken until now to get our ducks in a row and all the boys available at the same time. Now they are, we’re all absolutely delighted.”
“Red Dwarf has superb talent attached; writing, directing and acting plus an expert team who absolutely know what they are doing when it comes to delivering a stand-out piece of television,” added UKTV Commissioning Editor Simon Lupton. “It has a universal appeal that manages to touch long-standing fans and recruit new ones. It is fantastic to be collaborating with them again on the next phase of the Red Dwarf adventure.”
It has aired in Australia on ABC.
