Eighteen months after Seven axed Today Tonight editions on the East Coast, Seven has begun culling positions that contribute to Adelaide and Perth editions.

Around 15 of the show’s former staff are to set to lose current positions.

Mumbrella reports at least two staffers being made redundant and another 12 staff set to be redeployed, and some staff moving interstate.

“We are redeploying some others into other capital city markets, bolstering those teams,” said the spokesman.

Last year’s restructure of the Seven newsroom saw it confirm a number of staff redundancies in its Sydney newsroom and the consolidation of its investigation unit.

News Corp reports Seven’s investigative unit is to be wound up with Max Uechtritz resigning, now to serve ina consultant capacity.

When Seven dumped Today Tonight editions, it indicated staff would continue to contribute similar reports into Seven News. Whether Seven is also planning to dump Adelaide and Perth editions of Today Tonight in favour of one hour news is unclear.

The Seven spokesman also noted: “We are also in the process of hiring cadets under a new programme.”

Meanwhile in unrelated news Pyrmont real estate at Darling Island Road and Pirrama Road will undergo property development through Chinese-backed developer Aqualand Australia in a deal worth $180m.

The Fin Review reports the Seven carpark at 6 Darling Island Road has approval for a new 8-storey building featuring 32 apartments. The site includes 34-38 Pirrama Road which incorporates two heritage buildings and a smaller gatehouse building.

Any development is subject to Seven’s lease which potentially goes to 2029.
