Seven stays in front


New titles scored well last week including Catching Milat, Married at First Sight and the return of Eurovision.

Despite TEN rebuilding its shares and SBS strong on Friday & Saturday, Seven slipped through for another win.

Seven News (Sun: 1.4m) was the best for Seven then Catching Milat Pt 1 (1.39m), House Rules (Reveal: 1.15m) and Home And Away (802,000).

Nine News (Sun: 1.26m) led for Nine followed by Married at First Sight (1.14m*), A Current Affair (971,000), Love Child (927,000).

MasterChef Australia (Tues: 1.2m) topped TEN’s week. Other brands were NCIS (752,000), Modern Family (694,000) and Family Feud simulcast (637,000).

ABC News (Sun: 922,000), Australian Story (912,000) and Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries (786,000) were best for ABC.

On SBS ONE Eurovision Song Contest (Sat: 639,000) scored its best-ever numbers, Life and Death in Herculaneum (343,000) and A-League Grand Final (337,000) scored.

Seven won Sunday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Nine took Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. ABC bettered TEN on Friday and Saturday. SBS bettered TEN on Saturday.

Seven was victorious in all cities except Sydney, retained by Nine.



  1. Nine’s tactic of splitting the renovation reality market by running RR against HR has cut Seven’s viewer numbers but it has cut Nine’s more so it’s an own goal. In last week’s overnights HR got a total audience of 3.455 M Sunday to Wednesday but RR only got 3.158 M. HR also got more mentions in the Demo top 5s.

    Splitting the renovation audience with Seven was pretty dumb as a strategic option. The strong results for MKR put Seven ahead from the start of the year and Nine’s programming to match Seven means the gap isn’t being closed.

    • RR beat HR Monday & Tues, including with younger viewers, and is providing a reasonable lead-in to Married at First Sight and Love Child. Most of the difference is HR’s House Reveals are doing better on Sundays. RR is cheaper and has a shorter 6 week run to fill a hole in Nine’s schedule because The Voice isn’t available till later in the year and they cancelled BB.

      Nine have two new eps of TBBT but what else would do better?

      • They could try some original content. If it’s only a 6 week run to fill why not use the opportunity to experiment? Nine’s average overnight audience in the ~7:30PM slot was only 0.790 M so they haven’t got much to lose.

    • Agreed Indrid, and the despite the weaker numbers for House Rules, 7 is still coming home with the weekly wins! 7 has a lot of work to do to strengthen their schedule but they are still are doing better than boring old 9!

  2. What happened to Married at First Sight? It’s lost 257k from the Overnights.
    Did Nine list false running times again?

    It also got good numbers for a repeat and there are still +7s to be published.
