Enigmatic Aussie actor John Noble is joining Elementary‘s fourth season.

The Fringe star will play Sherlock Holmes’ (Jonny Lee Miller) wealthy and estranged father who arrives in New York. The character has been referenced in previous seasons as being instrumental in Sherlock’s stint in rehab three years ago and in pairing his son with Joan Watson (Lucy Liu).

“We could not be more delighted to have John Noble taking on such an important role,” series creator Robert Doherty said. “We’ve enjoyed his work for many years now — especially his tremendous run on Fringe — and cannot wait to see him opposite Jonny and Lucy. It’s going to be an exciting season.”

Noble’s recent credits include Sleepy Hollow, Forever and Devil’s Playground for Foxtel.

  1. I love Elementary but season 3 has been a bit flat. Hopefully they will bring it back up to par in season 4. The introduction of Sherlock’s father should be interesting. John Noble has a resemblance to Jonny Lee Miller.

  2. Maybe Bilko or JamieL can answer this one. Is this John Noble the same John Noble who was artistic director at Marian St Theatre in Sydney back in the 90s?

  3. Excellent, I couldn’t think of any actor better prepared to play Sherlock’s dad. I guess John will have a British accent for this one.

  4. Such a gentleman to interview and one of our best exports ever! I know Jai Courtney and Chris Hemsworth get the kudos but as an old bloke myself I love all the roles John steps into
