Nine News Adelaide weekend sports presenter Kym Dillon has revealed he was made redundant last Friday after “27 wonderful years.”

He was given the bad news by management on his birthday.

Dillon has taken to Facebook to advise he did not accept a redundancy and wanted to remain at the network:

“Like anyone who loses a job they love and are passionate about, I’m extremely disappointed, I’m also saddened to be leaving colleagues who are so much more than that, they and the station have been home,” he wrote.

“Given the calls I’m receiving and the confusion that has been generated through me not being on air in recent weeks I thought it was best to set the record straight.

“I did not accept a redundancy I wanted to stay at Channel Nine, I was made redundant.

“I leave with my head high, sleeves rolled up ready to jump into life’s next challenge. Hope that clears things up.

“I’ve been truly humbled by so many beautiful caring souls. As for those who have been shoulder to shoulder with me through this ridiculous, wonderful, crazy 27 year ride, I’ll be tracking you down to thank you in person.”

Dillon joined Nine in 1991 and has been involved with Adelaide programs including KG’s Football Show, Adelaide Today, The Racing Show and Postcards.

  1. very sad when you are a devoted and loyal employee. loyalty is quite rare these days so employers should at least show some appreciation to those who stay. I can understand the redundancy but they should have at least done the decent thing and given him 4 weeks notice, but they probably told him to leave immediately like they do.

  2. No doubt he was given a box for his personal stuff and escorted out of the building, which seems to be the charming way of sacking people these days.
