Fetch TV has announced subscribers will be able to download and keep TV & movies, including the latest season of Game of Thrones, instead of just streaming them.

Starting today, Fetch TV subscribers are able to download-to-own TV shows from distributors including HBO, 20th Century Fox, Roadshow Entertainment, Disney, Entertainment One, Warner Bros., Lionsgate, ABC Commercial, and Viacom International Media Works.

Titles will include Veep, True Detective, Entourage, True Blood, Wonderland, Empire, The Walking Dead, Broadchurch, Sons of Anarchy, Nashville and more.

TV shows and Movies can be viewed via the Fetch TV box, with purchases also available to stream to smartphones and tablets via the Fetch TV app. Pricing for TV shows will be $2.99 (SD) and $3.49 (HD) per episode, with discounts on full seasons.

Movie pricing will vary by title.

“Fetch TV is committed to providing access to the very best in premium content,” said Scott Lorson, CEO of Fetch TV. “Fetch TV subscribers can now purchase entire seasons of the most popular TV shows, including the latest season of Game of Thrones.”

“There are many avid viewers and fans of HBO series in Australia,” said Sofia Chang, EVP, Worldwide Digital Distribution and Home Entertainment, HBO. “We are delighted to partner with Fetch TV to offer their customers the ability to download and keep their favourite HBO shows.”

“Australians love their movie collections, and we are now seeing a rapid shift in preference from physical to digital ownership, as consumers embrace the convenience, early windowing, attractive pricing and multi-device viewing options,” said Lorson.

“Fetch TV is enjoying record subscriber growth on the back of a series of bold content initiatives. In February, we introduced nine more leading channels including the highly acclaimed BBC First. The launch of Netflix in March has proven wildly successful, and we are expecting another very strong response to the popular TV shows and movies now available for purchase on Fetch TV.”

More new release titles will be available for purchase two or more weeks prior to their DVD release dates.

  1. Suspect that the growth of fetch has more to do with isp bundles that include fetch not necessarily content. Content wise its nothing special and its not something that would be missed if it was gone tomorrow.
What would make the fetch box very useful if there was an option to link a pc to the fetch box and be able to watch recorded content from both free to air and entertainment pack channels on a pc.

  2. “Keep” keep, or “as long as you continue subscribing” keep?

Looks like the latter. It’s not in the FAQ, but the TV Store page has a footnote: “* Unlimited access with your existing Fetch TV subscription from your current service provider”.

    That’s not ‘download-to-own’ – that’s just a loan…

    1. That’s like Quickflix, where you “own” the shows, until you cancel the service.

Anyway Foxtel already do this with the IQ3. Once you download a show and push keep on the remote, you will never get rid of it, no matter how many times you try and delete it.

    2. Yup, it’s not “keep” unless I can copy the files off onto storage of my choosing and play that in the device of my choosing. Weasel Words.
