Q & A draws headlines, but Seven wins Thursday.
Ratings: MasterChef proves resilient on a generally-quiet Thursday.

Viewing was down across the board last night, including with staggered schedules on Seven and Nine due to sports this week.
MasterChef proved resilient to it all topping the night at 1.01m viewers (tied for #1 with Nine News 6pm).
ABC’s gay-themed double Between a Frock and a Hard Place (498,000) / Q & A (355,000) attracted social media comment and headlines today regarding Fred Nile’s stance against the rest of the panel. Many commented that social advances were proven by the discussion happening at all, while there was plenty of applause for the way Tom Ballard moderated the event.
Seven Network won Thursday with 30.0% share then Nine 25.5%, TEN 21.6%, ABC 17.9% and SBS 5.0%.
Seven won despite being under 900,000 with Seven News at 894,000 / 883,000 then Home and Away (614,000), Million Dollar Minute (535,000), AFL (509,000 in 2 cities). The Secret Life of Cats was 359,000 in 3 cities and Movie: The Water Diviner was 187,000 in 3 cities.
Nine News (1.01m / 977,000) was best for Nine then A Current Affair (831,000), Hot Seat (653,000). The Footy Show was 319,000 in 2 cities, Top Gear was 257,000 in 2 cities, Blinging Up Baby was 175,000 in 3 cities and Life on the Dole was 156,000 in 3 cities.
MasterChef Australia easily won its timeslot with 1.01m for TEN. The Project was 598,000 / 449,000, Law and Order: SVU was 569,000, TEN Eyewitness News was 559,000 and a repeat of CSI Cyber was 283,000.
ABC News (732,000) led for ABC then 7:30 (635,000), The Checkout (568,000), Between a Rock and a Hard Place (498,000), Q & A (355,000), Antiques Roadshow (341,000) and Dirty Laundry Live (215,000).
Heston’s Mission Impossible scored 200,000 on SBS ONE followed by Luke Nguyen’s United Kingdom (192,000), Shane Delia’s Spice Journey (163,000), SBS World News (139,000). Dig was 111,000.
Big Bang was best on multichannels with 308,000.

Always love ABC on Thursdays. Just need those ratings numbers to reflect good TV.
Tom Ballard has always been a strong television presence, but last night he proved that he really is coming into his own as a host. A strong, powerful Q&A that was handled remarkably well.
yep, my sentiments exactly. Not an easy gig, and Tom handled the prickly and inflammatory moments really well. I hope he gets more opportunities on the screen.
Really enjoyed the Q&A panel last night. The difference between Fred Nile’s views and the rest of the panels is enormous. Cannot believe some people still think this way. Tom Ballard was a natural host and did well keeping it on track and letting everyone voice their opinions.
The article says 509,000 for the AFL game in 3 cities, but it was actually 509,000 in 2 cities – Melbourne and Adelaide. It was top programme of the night by a mile in Adelaide, and second only to news in Melbourne over the course of its 3+ hour broadcast. I imagine Seven would be happy with that result.

Everything on ABC1 was good viewing last night, from 7.30 Report right through to Dirty Laundry.
Tom Ballard was fantastic – really impressed.
Those ABC numbers show they should have kept Dirty Laundry Live at 9.30. They bump it just when it starts getting it’s best ratings so far.
