House Rules managed a rare win over MasterChef last night, scoring 1.13m viewers over TEN’s cooking contest on 1.06m -but TEN still topped the Demos. Both left Reno Rumble to pick up 876,000, which was actually a slight increase on last week’s figures.
However it was Seven News that scored big on 1.43m, with big numbers in Melbourne following AFL. Nine News was similarly big in Sydney following NRL. 60 Minutes has certainly attracted the headlines today for a pointed interview, improving on last week’s numbers.
ABC’s night remains challenged, especially at 7:30pm against Reality fare.
Seven network was 30.6% then Nine 26.6%, TEN 21.2%, ABC 15.4% and SBS 6.3%.
Seven News (1.43m) topped the night for Seven then House Rules (1.13m) before a noticeable drop to Sunday Night (674,000). Castle was 336,000 / 246,000.
Nine News (1.27m) led for Nine followed by 60 Minutes (885,000), Reno Rumble (876,000) and Inside the Mafia (567,000). Stalker was 217,000 and The Following 70,000.
MasterChef Australia remained above a million for TEN on 1.06m. Shark Tank was 729,000, Modern Family was 600,000 / 424,000, TEN Eyewitness News was 389,000 and a Madam Secretary replay was 194,000.
ABC had an uneven night with ABC News on 927,000 and Poldark on 617,000. But in the middle of both was Mapp and Lucia on 499,000. Compass was 448,000 and Top of the Lake was 295,000.
On SBS ONE it was Michael Scott: Rome’s Invisible City (342,000), How to Clone a Woolly Mammoth (232,000), SBS World News (189,000) and Dig (129,000).
7mate’s movie Men in Black led multichannels with 260,000.

Just thought I’d come and say that I am still watching MasterChef (my first season) and glad to see it doing well. Like Shark Tank, its a simple but compelling premise that isn’t overly dramatic and true to its genre.
I’m also disappointed that Ten aren’t putting more effort into launching some fresh shows while they’ve got MasterChef. Yes, HYBPA and Madam Secretary are a start. But there’s no local drama in the schedule and impending NCIS and SVU repeats could easily move to 9.30 to make way for something fresh. To be fair, Seven and Nine also have lots of holes in their schedules too, but considering Ten’s ratings position I would have expected more.
Checked out the #OpenSlather hashtag last night on Twitter. So many Tweets using the hashtag and saying positive things about the show from Twitter users in Indonesia. $ for Tweets? Do other shows do this?
It’s been suggested for finale voting for SMSing. Haven’t heard it in relation to Twitter. But there is an issue for Twitter unable to geoblock hashtags where voting is concerned.
Didn’t bother with anything last night – would of watched Sunday Night but wasn’t interested in waiting till 850. Watched shows on PVR instead and then Rage on ABC3.
Poor Grant had a horrible cold in last nights recording of FF – wonder if the contestants like being breathed on!
Funny you mention that, I noticed it on Friday’s ep, but had not noticed it on Thursday; so was trying to work out if they began a run of shows from the one that aired Friday, therefore he will probably have the headcold voice for a couple more eps to come. He really does give it his all, i am impressed by his enthusiasm.
Jane Turner will mimic him in next week’s Open Slather.
David, you and I are old enough to remember the send ups of Tony Barber from Sale of the Century. Can’t recall who pilloried him then? Comedy Company or Fast Forward? Maybe it was Paul Hogan. Gord I’m old! But it was hilarious the way he used to race around the set and seemed so tiny. One can only hope Open Slather lets themselves go a bit silly. It all feels a bit tight. C’mon give us some whimsy!
Hoges.
Told you we were old enough! 🙂
No shock for the Open Slather drop. Far more miss than hit.
What’s made Masterchef popular again? Wasn’t is in the 700 000s to 900 000s in the last few years?
I think it’s because it’s up against two reno shows and people are over them. The Block used to be my favourite show, but I’m watching Masterchef because the other two choices are crap. I think a lot of people are in a similar position, either sick of renovating shows, or just fed up with how crappy these two are.
@dave Open Slather lost 50% of it’s audience from ep 1 – down from 260k to 130k. While still a solid number for pay, they’d be massively disappointed with that.
thanks enzso 🙂 I am not surprised by that figure. I really wanted to like the series. I was optimistic about ep 2 from the promos – geared i think towards the older audience like me. But the show feels strangely like a split personality. None of the former stars seem to share any scenes with the new guard. I like some of the new performers, but the allure of Jane and Gina and Marg and Magda et al is not, for me being properly managed. I will stick with it, as i have pretty much every sketch comedy show made in the last 3 decades. I am ever hopeful.
Masterchef really missed a trick last night. We all love Hayden but he didn’t fire as a guest. His presence made no difference to the cooking or the judging. A missed opportunity.
Good episodes of both Masterchef and Shark Tank last night. Didn’t bother with anything else.
Two things. How about the massive drop for Open Slather cf last week. Nearly half the audience has deserted the program.
And Masterchef till won Syd and Mel. In the latter case by a good amount. It’s Adl and Per where House Rules had the win.
How did Open Slather fare in its 2nd outing?
Ten topped the demos? Really…
Really.
I guess it should be a good interpretation for 10 that two locally made shows are doing well, but it still amazes me how Modern Family has dropped and that 10’s viewers seemingly come and go through the night. The final ep of series 6 last week rated about the same as last night’s second repeat.
Because there are so many repeats, people assume they are all repeats so new ones get lost amongst a sea of repeats…
Oh, was there a new one last night?
No. Season 6 final was last week. We’re up to date with the US so itll be a little while before we get more new eps of Modern Family
Anne Chancellor was good as Lucia, but the story of Mapp & Lucia was silly and accents, teeth and mincing about put me off. I only made it 20 minutes into episode 1, and didn’t attempt episode 2.
Yes , Mapp and Lucia is all a bit silly and OTT but I can imagine there are bizarre characters like this out there in some of those little English villages, albeit here they are grossly exaggerated .
Was a big League of Gentleman fan so I can relate to this- great to see Steve Pemberton and Mark Gattiss back on our screens.
Anne and Miranda are brilliant as the two scheming leading ladies , especially Miranda as the hideous Mapp.
