Both Seven and Nine ran schedules without Reality television shows last night -and still managed to come first and second in the Ratings.

Seven’s line-up consisted of Observationals and Drama whilst Nine had a staggered schedule due to sport, but ran Observationals and Docos elsewhere. For Nine it was the second night in a row without Reality (after winning Tuesday without it).

But Reality did top the night for TEN with more good numbers for MasterChef on 1.22m viewers.

  1. i long for the days of scripted comedy and drama being the bread and butter of TV (with mostly unknowns as well- Australia has more then 10 good actors im sure)… seems to works for Netflix.. just saying…

  2. I wish it was as simple as “put some dramas on and win the night” but when you look at the percentages, Ten’s main channel was only just behind those of Seven and Nine. It’s their multichannels which let them down. If Ten had anything decent on after MC they’d have won the night and if Seven or Nine had had one of their blockbuster shows on, they would’ve won.

However, it’s the raw numbers that tell the real story and they are not great. 26.8% might get you the headline for today but it’s 26.8% of a smaller pie. Ten has def improved it’s position tho’ and MC is performing much better than this time last year – up from ~900K to 1.2M but then it’s not up against House Rules.

    1. Masterchef was up against House Rules on Monday and Tuesday night smashed it both times. I think Masterchef might eclipse The Voice on Sunday night!

  3. Wouldn’t it be likely that these stations have already lost most viewers of drama due to the amount of “reality” programming they have?
I could be mean and say that their remaining viewers have had their brains go to mush so they don’t know what they’re watching, but I won’t.

    1. I have noticed that 9 and 7 do a lot of this during their 6 o’clock bulletin. 10’s 5 o’clock bulletin doesn’t seem to have this problem (maybe it’s the extra time they spend of informative traffic reports and extra weather coverage)

  4. David those numbers for Ch9 post 7:30 (even when combined) are woeful!!
That is the definition of the sky crashing down.. Even Reno Crumble was 100’s of thousands better than that

      1. Nine was down to 18%, most of it from News/ACA. 8% was secondary channels where they make alot less money from niche audiences, especially Gem. Seven’s main channel barely did any better; Ten was breathing down the necks of both them. It’s poor results from Eleven and One that keep them so far back.

Definitely a sky is falling situation for 7 & 9.

        1. I can only see it falling further with more of the same reality trash they’re looking to offer us this year (Hot plate, restaurant revolution, another series of The Block).
