Next week Nine premieres new US procedural The Mysteries of Laura, starring Debra Messing.

Based on a Spanish series, Los misterios de Laura, it centres around a NY homicide detective who is also a single mother seeking a divorce from the man who also happens to be her boss.

Adapted by Jeff Rake it is directed by Joseph McGinty “McG” Nicol.

The series premiered in the US in September and has been approved for a second season. Nine launches with a double episode premiere next Wednesday.

Emmy Award winner Debra Messing (Will & Grace) stars as Laura Diamond, a brilliant detective whose life is spiralling out of control, when The Mysteries of Laura premieres in a double episode on Wednesday, July 29, at 8.40pm on Channel Nine.

Diamond is an honourable homicide cop in New York, working alongside her partner Billy Soto (Laz Alonso, Avatar), who has her back in every situation on and off-duty in this captivating and light-hearted “dramedy” sifting through the daily troubles of a busy mum and an even busier detective.

Behind the scenes Laura is a dishevelled mother of twins, newly separated from her soon-to-be ex-husband, Detective Jake Broderick (Josh Lucas, The Firm, A Beautiful Mind).

Episode one is a dramatic yet comical portrayal of a woman’s balancing act between a stellar ability to catch dangerous criminals while juggling her less-than-law abiding twins. Kicked out of pre-school for painting the classroom and each other red, Laura must find another school for them while trying to catch a killer who has struck right under her nose. Could it be someone within her ranks?

In episode two, which guest stars three-time Emmy nominee Richard Paul “Ricky” Golden (All My Children), Laura and Jake are finalising their divorce. A case involving an online hook-up that ends in murder encourages Detective Diamond to set up a profile to investigate it, using herself to bait the killer … as she also considers the online dating scene to help her through the divorce.

Wednesday, July 29, at 8.40pm on Nine.

  1. I enjoyed Debra Messing and that guy who was the lead in Red Dog is still sexy. I only recorded the first ep though, the double eps are a bit much. Nine did do the same with Forever and they did show all its eps.

  2. This appears to be a good show…but scrolling down…everyone said what I was thinking…*groan*,,
It is on Nine…and I have not had good experiences with their shows….think, most recent…Forever….*sigh*….Past Drop Dead Diva …just to name two ….
And starting with a double episode does not seem great…to me..

    1. My opinion exactly looks like they are burning it on the get go. I am also giving Legends a go on One (with Sean Bean) which premieres that night also.
