It was a battle between 'sugar' and 'spice' but 20 y.o. tomboy Brittany Beattie won Foxtel's modelling crown.

It was described as a battle between ‘sugar’ and ‘spice’ but last night self-confessed tomboy Brittany Beattie (pictured, left) was named Australia’s Next Top Model.

The 20 year old “bogan bobcat driver” from Whittlesea, north-west of Melbourne, defeated 17 year old student Lucy Markovic, 17, from the Gold Coast.

The finale featured America’s Next Top Model creator Tyra Banks, joining host Jennifer Hawkins and Alex Perry before a catwalk audience, although there were reports 2 endings were filmed.

Brittany scored 3 perfect 10s from the judges with Lucy beaten by just a single point.

“At first I didn’t have anywhere near enough confidence to be part of something like this. After my aunty convinced me to enter, and even when I was in the house, I still thought I would be sent home,” said Brittany.

“I can’t believe this time last year I was driving a truck every day around farms in my home town, and now I’ve met some of the most amazing people from fashion and modelling. I am in shock and can’t wait to see what happens next.”

“Brittany has had something special from the beginning, she was very intriguing. The fact that she didn’t know she was a beautiful girl with so much potential was a huge part of her charm,” said Hawkins.

“Throughout the whole process, Brittany has had her ups and downs, but she listened to advice and evolved in such a short period of time. I really think she was one of the biggest transformations in Top Model history. I have no doubt she will be joining our other successful winners on the international modelling circuit very soon and will forge a solid career for herself.”

The ninth season, without the late Charlotte Dawson, certainly stepped up the A List stars with Tyra Banks, Linda Evangelista, Alessandra Ambrosio, Kelly Osbourne, John Paul Gaultier, Megan Gale and Coco Rocha.

Brittany wins an eight page editorial spread in ELLE Australia, a 12 month modelling contract with IMG and will head to New York Fashion Week.

Foxtel is already calling for interested applicants to register for 2016 on the FOX8 website.

  1. Alex is actually a nice guy, I saw him at our local Specsavers doing some charity work and the way he was interacting with a sick little boy, getting very emotional, and doing all he could to help raise money for this family was heart warming.
Then afterwards he was only too happy to have photos taken with anyone who wanted one. I chatted to him and told him I had watched the first episode of ANTM and he asked me who I liked so far. I told him Lucy and Alex will be in the final so I wasn’t far wrong.
Lucy’s parents didn’t look at all happy, I think they thought she deserved it more.

  2. I agree TVTim – after a great, entertaining series the finale was really boring. Although I do love Alex – the show wouldn’t be the same without him!

  3. It was a real lacklustre finale…. Even though Tyra was there (who really hammed it up) it was really missing some sparkle and pizzazz…. The live finale always had that…. Hopefully next year it can return with Jennifer at the helm but without that dreadful Alex Perry….
