Monday’s Four Corners will screen ‘7/7: Ten Years On’, from Britain’s Sky News, which features stories of courage and humanity in the aftermath of the London bombings.

On the morning of July 7, 2005, four suicide bombers detonated their explosives during the London peak hour. Fifty-two innocent people were killed. The bombs, three on the London Underground and one on a bus, injured more than 700 others.

In this powerful and moving story from Britain’s Sky News, survivors and their rescuers recount that terrible day.

What emerges from the horror is a story of courage and humanity.

“I held on to her hand and she said ‘you won’t let go will you?’ And I said ‘No, not until I am told to and they’ll have to have a damn good reason.’” Tim Coulson, witness

“He said ‘are you ok?’ And in a way they’re the three greatest words I could have heard because you’re talking to someone who is just saying ‘are you ok?’” Richard Levy, survivor

“I could feel a touch on my shoulder and the words ‘priority one’ and I just felt immediate release. Thank God you’re here. I’ll give myself to you now, I’ve done all I can. Here I am.” Gill Hicks, survivor

A decade on, the program shows how some have turned their experiences into fighting extremism.

“I just can’t bear the thought that another family might have to experience what we’ve had to experience… If I can do anything to stop another family having that experience, I will do and I will talk to whoever and say whatever is necessary to prevent any other family having to undergo what we did.” Graham Foulkes, father of 22-year-old David Foulkes, who was killed on July 7.

Monday 13th July at 8.30pm ABC.
