Lights! Models! Guest list! Just do your best, darling.

The big screen adaptation of Absolutely Fabulous is set to begin filming in London in October, with the original cast on board: Jennifer Saunders, Joanna Lumley, Julia Sawalha, June Whitfield, Jane Horrocks.

The project is also expected to include plenty of star cameos (and hopefully other supporting cast).

Mandie Fletcher will direct, with Jon Plowman and Damian Jones producing. Jennifer Saunders, Dawn French and Maureen Vincent are exec producing.

It’s hardly the first time a film has been touted, but Deadline reports Fox Searchlight is in talks to board as a co-producer and co-financier with the BBC and handle worldwide distribution.

Although plot points are being kept under wraps for now, Saunders has joked that her motivation to make the film were Joanna Lumley telling her they needed to “do it before we die” and a $15,000 bet with longtime collaborator French that she couldn’t get the production off the ground before the end of the year.

Ab Fab will join a growing list of recent films based on British TV including the box office hit The Inbetweeners, plus upcoming releases Dad’s Army and Bad Education.

  1. Shoppers in “Harvey Nicks”, Knightsbridge, should be wary of a brightly dressed, middle aged woman pushing an aging grey-haired lady in a wheelchair with a long rope attached to a tall, statuesque woman on roller-skates with nicotine patches covering her left arm and similarly placed alcohol patches on the other arm. They are closely followed by two large swarthy men in thick black overcoats, dark bushy beards and wearing wrap-around sunglasses who are trying to be inconspicuous as they constantly search for new members to join the Siberian Ballroom Dancing Team.
