Not quite Top Gear. On Friday SBS premieres The Classic Car Show, a new 13-part series, hosted by motoring journalist Quentin Willson and supermodel Jodie Kidd.

The series looks at the iconic cars, personalities and events that underpin the classic car world.

It’s an emotional start for the series as Quentin falls in love with the automotive icon that sums up the feel-good 60s American Dream – the Ford Mustang. Then we rub shoulders with beautiful people and even more beautiful cars at London Fashion Week and compare a million-dollar classic Mercedes against its swoopy modern counterpart in the classic desirability stakes.

There’s a $10,000 classic that divides opinion like Brussels sprouts, and we follow classic car expert Chris Routledge as he discovers a finny 60s land-yacht that’s been forgotten in a hedge for thirty years. Meanwhile, Jodie goes all misty-eyed when she takes the wheel of a $10 million late-50s Ferrari California Spider V12.

Friday, 28 August at 7.30pm on SBS.

  1. Saw an ad for this last week and thought “Top Gear for Toffs” (sort of). Anyway, I like classic cars and Jodie Kidd so I’ll give it a look.
