I nearly missed that Rectify returns to SBS tonight for its third season.

The show didn’t rate a mention in SBS publicity highlights and has been buried at 10:30pm. That’s despite it starring Aden Young who co-stars in its upcoming local drama, The Principal.

It has already been available on SBS On Demand (4 new eps currently available) but tonight marks its television premiere.

Here is the synopsis:

Daniel Holden is a young man who has been released from jail after spending 19 years on death row for murder. Daniel is, once again, a convicted murderer. He has agreed to a plea deal over the murder of his girlfriend in order to leave the State. Now Daniel and his entire family begin to move forward after the plea bargain has been struck. Amantha catches a glimpse of her life post-Daniel. Ted insists that Daniel leave their home early. Teddy and Tawny work through some marital issues, including Tawny’s whereabouts. George Melton’s body surfaces, so Sheriff Daggett begins an investigation. Meanwhile, the Senator deals with some health issues.

10:30pm tonight on SBS.

    1. Yes but they started fast tracking S3 on On Demand before finishing the repeats of S2. Then put S3 on, with no catch-ups (because they have expired) with no promos or press releases.

That is unusual. I only spotted it because I stumbled across the fact that #3.1 had expired on On Demand.

It’s character and atmosphere based show, especially in S1. S2 had more plot and less spectacular visuals.

      1. I only found out that S3 was on On Demand because Belinda mentioned it in passing in the TV Lounge. I’ve been watching the eps as they became available and was a bit surprised to see that they ran out before they were broadcast. If you miss an ep and assume that you can watch it on catch-up, you’ll be disappointed. Strange decision.

S3 has even more plot (or more obvious) than S2 but it’s still underplayed. I found that it had a bit of a Six Feet Under feel to it.
