GEM begins its coverage of the Rugby World Cup 2015 from Saturday September 19.

As Australia’s Wallabies seek to end a 16-year drought, GEM coverage will include qualifying rounds, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.

Alex Rolls, Nine’s Network Executive Producer – Wide World of Sports, said today: “Wide World of Sports continues to bring Aussies the biggest sporting events in the world. With the Rugby World Cup we will have the matches that matter, featuring the biggest stars. All live and free.”

Australia, two-time winners, last claimed the Webb Ellis Cup – the pinnacle of world rugby – by defeating France in 1999. In 2015, they will have to account for England, Fiji, Wales and Uruguay in the qualifying rounds to progress to the finals, where the current title holders, New Zealand’s All Blacks, loom as the team to beat.

The Nine Network coverage will be hosted by Wide World of Sports presenters Ken Sutcliffe, Cameron Williams and Bill Baxter. Joining them will be five expert commentators: former Wallabies Phil Waugh,Brendan Cannon, Andrew Slack and Nathan Sharpe, who will provide sideline reports live from the Rugby World Cup venues in England and Wales. Prop Benn Robinson who has played 72 test matches for Australia since 2006, will also be part of the commentary team.

To complement Nine’s broadcast, Wide World of Sports will have Live updates across its social media channels – giving rugby fans exclusive match information throughout the 20-team tournament.
