TEN lagging in Sunday race

Ratings: Third Sunday in a row under 15% share for TEN with cops no match for singers on The Voice.

It’s arguably the biggest night of the week but for the third Sunday in a row TEN has sunk below a 15% share -lacking compelling first run content since the end of MasterChef.

Last night the best it could manage was 501,000 for the season final of Gold Coast Cops -next week it is forced to repeat episodes just to fill the slot. TEN’s decision may be strategic, opting not to throw The Great Australian Spelling Bee against The Voice. Sometimes the art of Programming is about knowing when to put your best foot forward -but for how long? The best it could claim last night was Modern Family and Gold Coast Cops in the top 10 with viewers under 55.

The Voice dominated at 1.38m viewers, a figure where it appears to have levelled but is none too shabby, while Dancing with the Stars lifted on last week for Seven.

Nine network won with 32.7% then Seven 29.3%, ABC 15.8%, TEN 14.9% and SBS 7.4%.

Following The Voice for Nine were Nine News (1.32m) and 60 Minutes (874,000 in preliminary figures). AD Kingdom and Empire was 212,000. NB: Last week’s preliminary figure for 60 Minutes of 936,000 was adjusted to 778,000.

Seven News was best for Seven at 1.3m viewers followed by Sunday Night (1.15m) and Dancing with the Stars (736,000). Bones was thrown away at only 330,000.

Grand Designs Revisited drew 863,000 for ABC then ABC News (819,000), The Politician’s Husband (581,000) and Compass (343,000). Silent Witness was 245,000.

Gold Coast Cops scraped in with 501,000 for TEN. Modern Family was 495,000 / 414,000, Bondi Rescue was 475,000, CSI Cyber was 411,000, TEN Eyewitness News was 404,000, and NCIS was just 248,000.

On SBS Uranium: Twisting the Dragon’s Tail pulled 380,000, Petra: Lost City of Stone was 378,000, Sex and the West was 198,000 and SBS World News was 184,000.

7mate’s movie Elysium led multichannels at 252,000.

  1. No, not a compelling night of viewing from Ten, but I do commend their decision not to throw the Spelling Bee against The Voice/Dancing. I would have commissioned a second season of Shark Tank to replace MasterChef.

  2. Where is Scorpion 10? It hasn’t played out season 1 and season 2 must be starting in the States soon. It did rate well for 10 at 6.30 and it’s really odd they haven’t fallen back on it.

  3. I did see a promo for new season of scorpion which seemed to do well in the sunday 6: 30 timeslot. Cyber numbers up slightly from last couple of weeks. David any chance of knowing how SYTYCD is going im really enjoying it this year.

  4. And yet, all four of TEN’s ‘lagging’ shows from 6:30-8:30 beat the woeful numbers for Dancing with the Stars in Under 55s… and yet no mention… again..
Keeping a night afloat with the blue rinse brigade is akin to chanting the success of a local bingo hall.

    1. Ditto, those lagging Channel 10 shows were not even up against Dancing with the Stars. They were up against the Channel 7 news and Sunday night. The blue rinse didn’t beat the Channel Ten shows.

      1. Update on the ‘blue rinse brigade’ ….As far as I am aware, the last one of the brigade passed away about 15 years ago. Blue rinse sales have dramatically declined this century. …and describing a section of the population in such terms displays some signs of prejudice and ageism…..just sayin

          1. Have already explained demos are not the focus of ratings wraps and are listed under the Ratings rankings. Now you know for future use, or you can take out an OzTAM subscription, thanks.

  5. I notice 9’s bumped their God Drama back to a 10.40pm start with only one episode next Sunday, preceded by a 30 minute ‘highlight’ of John Farnham and Olivia Newton-John’s gig.

  6. The women’s AFL game on Ch 7 apparently rated 221,000, which as a female player of the game, I’m pleased about. That’s not bad for an exhibition match in the middle of the day! What I’m not pleased about is the fact that they cut the game short by 1.5 minutes so that the men’s game would start on time. I’m absolutely spewing.

    1. Was watching with my daughters who are now playing AFL at their school thanks to a visit from GWS and Swans (we’re in Sydney) – we lost signal for about 10 minutes as the last quarter got underway – then when it came back they were into the pregame show for the next (mens) game – why couldn’t they at least show the ending!

      1. It wasn’t even the TV coverage – they literally sounded the siren at 18.30, and the AFL website says that they did this due to contractual obligation with the men’s teams. There was only 4 points in the game and 90 seconds could have been the difference between winning & losing! So disappointing given that it was the first ever televised women’s AFL game on free to air!

    2. I haven’t seen the match myself but I did notice there is a full match replay available today in the video section of the afl website for those that might be interested.

  7. It is a real shame Bondi Rescue doesn’t pull better numbers, it has great characters, good narrative and of course last night the ‘de-gloving’ of a man and his manhood!
