With a newly-announced public holiday in Victoria for Grand Final Eve on Friday (seriously), Seven is hoping for a big crowd to turn up at Federation Square for its Grand Final Eve Countdown.

The event will be recorded from 6:30pm if you wish to attend.

On Grand Final eve Channel 7 brings you a preview of the ultimate decider, along with some of the biggest names in entertainment including indie rock band British India performing live.

Hosted by Hamish McLachlan with Cameron Ling and Wayne Carey, the panel will have loads of fun as they select their very own AFL person of the year, cross live to the West Coast Eagles at their hotel, and nominate their greatest Grand Final heroes, games and entertainment.

Special AFL guests including Bruce McAvaney, Leigh Matthews and All-Australian captain Robert Murphy will be there to give us their view on how the Grand Final will unfold.

Rebecca Maddern will be soaking up all the atmosphere with the fans in Federation Square. And 7 News meteorologist Jane Bunn will tell us the all-important Grand Final weather forecast.

Two lucky fans in the crowd at Federation Square will also win Grand Final tickets.

Then it’s the traditional Grand Final footy marathon to take us through to Sunrise on Saturday morning.

  1. Channel 7’s AFL coverage is designed for people who don’t watch AFL. Unfortunately it will be the same dribble they always do. The way Fox Footy leads up to the grand final is a lot more suited to proper AFL supporters

  2. As I have commented yesterday. 7 would have been better off doing a Game day or Talking Footy special of That Was The Season That Was. that show was awesome back in the 90s and 80s. A complete review of the season from and on and off the field perspective. I am sure you remember that show David. Can you please ask the programing director or equivalent to consider putting it back on? because the format was great they would review every round. They could use Craig Willis again they use him for the regular season voice overs.
