TEN’s Bachelor drew upon drama last night as one of its favourites was sent packing, just a week before the finale. Social media was in a spin when bachelor Sam farewelled Heather, but it drew excellent ratings.

At 981,000 it was the top rated entertainment show of the night, and helped push TEN above Seven for the evening. That was attributable to the fact Seven’s primetime underperformed so badly. Restaurant Revolution ended on just 183,000 -its lowest ever figure- but even Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares struggled.

The Chaser’s Media Circus returned to 559,000 for ABC, third in its slot.

Meanwhile The Footy Show had its best figure all year, presumably with added interest in Beau Ryan headlines, at 718,000 viewers.

Nine network won with 29.1% then TEN 23.9%, Seven 23.4%, ABC 16.4% and SBS 7.2%.

Nine News (1.01m / 1.01m) topped the night for Nine then A Current Affair (874,000), The Footy Show (718,000), Kings Cross ER (659,000), RBT (645,000) and Hot Seat (518,000).

The Bachelor (981,000) scored for TEN. The Project was 661,000 / 459,000, TEN Eyewitness News was 533,000, Law and Order: SVU was 455,000 / 259,000. Zoo was just 97,000.

Seven News was 942,000 / 843,000 for Seven then Home and Away (672,000), Million Dollar Minute (488,000) and Border Security International (445,000). Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares was just 310,000 and Restaurant Revolution finished with just 183,000.

ABC News (796,000), 7:30 (625,000), The Chaser’s Media Circus (559,000), The Honourable Woman (337,000), Antiques Roadshow (290,000) and Catastrophe (173,000) comprised ABC’s night.

On SBS it was Ainsley Harriott’s Street Food (258,000) Rachel Khoo’s Kitchen Notebook Melbourne (255,000), Luke Nguyen’s France (229,000), SBS World News (147,000) and Masters of Sex (111,000).

Big Bang Theory was best on multichannels at 296,000 / 295,000.

  1. The Bachelor is doing very well am really enjoying the show, I kinda figured that Heather was going to go you could see her in the new macca’s scratch to win commercial…I was like well if she was with the Bachelor she would be doing commercials etc….. that kind of ruined that for me a little. The Bachelorette should be interesting.. I definitely find Ch 10 having much better shows that Ch7.

  2. The Bachelor was riveting last night and intellectually superior to most of the other offerings. So sad to see Heather leave, but maybe for the best. Sam is in a tough place, he probably knows who he wants but has to string the others along and endure intense scrutiny. Snezana’s family did not seem too impressed that she was on the show, or that she brought Sam home or let him meet her daughter. I did think it was not ideal to involve a 9 year old child in an adult dating show….just pushing the boundaries a little….what do others think?

    1. According to Snezana her daughter encouraged her to go the show, but I do agree it was odd, especially the scene where she met up her daughter for the first time in 8 weeks at the park. I would have thought the would have seen her daughter before introducing her to Sam. That’s my thoughts and perhaps not filmed?

    2. A couple of weeks ago I read a story on Snezanas’ ex husband and he was quoted as saying that he wouldn’t let their daughter ever leave WA. That would create a lot of problems if true.

    3. Agree jezza, the Bachelor was riviting last night. It’s been a great series and I’m really pleased to see a reality show doing well that doesn’t involve singing, dancing or pretend renovating. I didn’t have a problem with the daughter being on the show and I doubt the park scene was the first time mother and daughter had seen each other since Snezana had left for the show, but it makes for good TV as they say. I think the daughter will be on a high today at school with her friends all wanting to know what it was like etc and at the end of the day, the daughter and Sam need to meet at some stage before any decisions are made, so I thought it was okay.

  3. “The Footy Show had its best figure all year, presumably with added interest in Beau Ryan headlines,”
Although Sydney’s (NRL) footy show rated only 148,000 vs Melbourne’s (AFL) footy show rated a whooping 333,000 – without the Beau Ryan effect.

    1. Even though i rarely do these days I decided to watch footy show (afl) live last night due to it being finals. They seem to introduce everyone pretty quick this episode so I thought well its moving along faster than usual and then they falter at the same point every episode. The minute they go to the afl footballers on the panel in this case Dane Swan and Drew Petrie and have a lengthy discussion about their lives I lose interest. Its nothing against these footballers or any footballers on the panel but I simply don’t care about their lives or their specific football situation. The panellists are usually regulars anyway so its same old. A good football show should always open discussing the pressing issues early on and a general football discussion not specifics about a regular panellist. Its so easy to get bored in the opening segment of the afl footy show these days and turn off.

  4. Premium UK drama that has screened in Australia first on BBCFirst is really hurting the audience numbers when they screen second on the ABC. This strengthens the argument for premium Australian drama to be commissioned for key slots in particular Sunday night on the ABC – we want to see premium content on the ABC first! This is an important opportunity being missed by the ABC. If 1M peeps turn up for Gruen and Utopia they will turn up for great drama.

    1. I keep looking for UK dramas to watch on bbc first on fetch and I can’t find much worth watching. Admittedly I’m not big on british so it has to be above average for me to give it a chance but fetch does a really poor job of promoting the content on their channels and there is hardly any cross promotion between channels for fetch content but lots of promotion of foxtel content not available on fetch.
