So first Seven has a tribute at 11pm Sunday night, in most places not even on their main channel. Now they can’t even be bothered putting this on the main channel at 10am just because of their morning shows!
Good use of a multichannel if you ask me. Don’t think it really matters what channel it is on in this day and age to be honest.
Can imagine the screaming if their morning show commercials were interrupted. At the same time, Australia seems to overdoing it a bit with “state funerals”, which are “– A funeral arranged and funded by the Government which is held to honour prominent people (usually high-ranking public officials) who have given long and outstanding service to the State”. Not quite sure where football players and commercial horse trainers fit in to this definition.
I am in complete agreement with you. It smacks very much of the govt trying to earn some brownie points with the sports-loving public. One of the most galling of recent times was for Steve Irwin, a man who established a name for himself by man-handling wild animals for American cable TV. You’d have thought he was a saint the way Peter Beattie gushed over him.
