Aussies will oversee a big-name cast in the remake of the iconic '70s miniseries.

Australian directors Bruce Beresford and Phillip Noyce are on board to direct the TV remake of the iconic 1970s miniseries, Roots.
They will join with Mario Van Peebles and Thomas Carter on the miniseries being made by A&E Networks.
English actor Malachi Kirby has landed the central role of Kunta Kinte, handpicked by producers Will Packer and LeVar Burton. Another Brit, Regé-Jean Page has been cast as Chicken George.
They are joined by Laurence Fishburne, Forest Whitaker, Anna Paquin, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Anika Noni Rose, Derek Luke, Chad L. Coleman and Erica Tazel.
Phillip Noyce will direct the first part while Beresford helms the fourth and final part.
No network has yet been announced for Australia.
