Hart to Hart getting remake with gay couple

Wealthy mystery crime-solvers could be back, but this time with a gender twist.

Former US procedural series Hart to Hart is in development for a reboot, with a gay couple as its central characters.

The series, which ran for 5 seasons from 1979-84, starred Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers as a wealthy couple leading a glamorous jet-set lifestyle solving murders.

Deadline reports Christopher Fife (Revenge, Private Practice), is giving the series a modern makeover with a gay couple who must balance the crime-solving in the midst of newly-found domesticity. No word on the gender of the characters.

The project has received a script commitment from multiple networks, but yet to proceed to pilot stage.

I guess now it doesn’t need to justify its campy tone…

  1. Why do they need to say it’s a “remake” when it’s so different already? They set these things up to fail with too many unfair comparisons to a classic show. Just make a new show and let it stand on its own two feet.

  2. B’wah-hah-hah! This is a genius twist that if done right could be the most brilliantly worked modernisation, or it could be an insulting mess. Hoping for the former coz the original was a guilty pleasure back when I was far too young to understand it.

    1. What about Battlestar Galactica or Hawaii Five-0?

But yes I agree for the most part remakes have an unreliable remake history.

As for this one I did hear rumors that Matthew Perry was interested in a remake.

          1. I’m pretty sure it somehow managed high ratings and got an early renewal. Medically speaking there’s no accounting for taste!
