Controversial former Labor leader Mark Latham will appear on Nine’s new panel show pilot, hosted by Karl Stefanovic.

Latham, who has attracted headlines for his recent outburst and media performance, will join in the pilot to be filmed in Sydney next week.

News Corp reports other participants are former Liberal minister Amanda Vanstone, Bollywood actress Pallavi Sharda, entrepreneur Tammy May and founder of non-profit organisation Batyr, Seb Robertson.

A Nine spokesperson said, “We have a group of panellists proposed for the pilot who are currently being briefed and Mark Latham is one of those.

“We haven’t signed anyone to any deal long-term for the show if it goes beyond a pilot.”

The show is tipped for a post 10pm timeslot, aiming for a broader audience than Q & A with a lighter touch.

Nine recently told potential audience members, “We’re recording a pilot and we’d love for you to be a part of the audience, take part in discussions and put the panelists to the test. If you have been searching for something new and different on TV, here’s your chance to be a part of it.

“The pilot will be fiery and fun – a must for anyone who likes a good debate.”

Sunrise recently said it was reviewing Latham’s future appearances in the wake of his recent comments directed at prominent women, including Australian of the Year Rosie Batty.

  1. Crikey! If this panel show proves to be a ratings success I pity poor Karl. Do the Channel 9 Studios have a bedroom prepared for Karl when he fronts for the Today Show?

  2. It may be a good alternative to Q&A. Q&A is just too political, hopefully this show is more in touch with current news related events and real issues that viewers can relate to, not just left wing minorities.

  3. Well I wish nine well but I’m not sure it will work. People want to watch either funny panel shows or serious panel shows. If we wanted intentional attempts at controversy we’d still be watching Can of Worms. Nine never seems to want to go classy, despite the continuing success of 60 minutes which I think just tips the serious/tabloid scale to the serious side. If they try to go too popular and tabloid they’ll get nobody. It is nine so you can guarantee it will be predominately white, mostly male. They just can’t help themselves.
