Neck and neck on Monday night

Ratings: Dancing finale is lower than 2014, but Seven's multichannels help the network clinch the night by just 0.1%.

Just 0.1% split Seven and Nine on Sunday, and it was the same on Monday night.

While Nine’s shows led until around 8:30, and it won primary channels, Seven gained ground in its multichannels.

The Monday finale of Dancing with the Stars was 883,000 viewers, not enough to topple The Block‘s 932,000, nor beat its 2014 figure of 1.06m viewers. It’s hard to overlook that the trend of diminishing returns in a fragmenting landscape, but the show is back for 2016.

ABC had another strong night, with Four Corners defeating House Husbands and Have You Been Paying Attention?

Seven network won with 27.1% then Nine 27.0%, ABC 22.6%, TEN 18.1% and SBS 5.2%.

Seven News (1/04m / 1.04m) led for Seven followed by Dancing with the Stars (883,000), Home and Away (789,000), Million Dollar Minute (504,000) and Mrs Brown’s Boys (377,000 / 287,000).  Talking Footy was 17,000 in 3 cities (93,000 on 7mate).

Nine News (1.22m / 1.21m) was best for Nine then A Current Affair (1.09m), The Block (932,000), House Husbands (699,000) and Hot Seat (608,000). Footy Classified was 267,000 (AFL) and 136,000 (NRL).

ABC News was strong on 915,000. Next for ABC were 7:30 (877,000), Australian Story (837,000), Four Corners (823,000), Media Watch (717,000) and Q & A (705,000).

The penultimate Great Australian Spelling Bee scored 662,000 for TEN. The Project was 642,000 / 454,000, TEN Eyewitness News was 591,000 and Have You Been Paying Attention? was 568,000. An NCIS repeat was 238,000 and Under the Dome was just 103,000.

On SBS it was Allergies: Modern Life and Me (250,000), The Island with Bear Grylls (213,000 / 203,000), and SBS World News (152,000).

ABC2’s Shaun the Sheep showed up multichannels with 257,000.
