Nine backs down after Seven refused to broadcast local footy team wearing a Nine News logo.

Nine has reportedly backed down in the ongoing Western Australian stoush in which Seven refused to broadcast matches with the West Perth Falcons, due to a Nine News logo on their jumpers.

TheWest.com.au reports Nine and the WA Football Commission came to an agreement yesterday. The dispute between parties has dragged on all year.

Falcons will now wear the logo of Variety charity for televised matches.

Nine’s sponsorship is believed to be worth $100,000 in cash and contra a year for three seasons.

Seven managing director Mario D’Orazio said, “We are delighted to be broadcasting West Perth matches on TV.”

West Perth meet Swans District today in the first WAFL semi final.

  1. LOL at the comments here about Seven being petty. Where were they when the Hot Plate fiasco was being played out? Good on Seven for standing their ground against Nine.

  2. For those of you not aware, 9 started sponsoring West Perth 2 years ago. 7 started televising games this year and obviously knew that 9 sponsored West Perth. They knew what they were getting into but had to be the bully boy…that is what I can’t stand.

  3. If Nine and Fox Sports can digitally add logos to the ground for NRL games, surely Seven have the technology to digitally remove logos on shirts if they wished.

    1. Much more work to add them to the complex surface of moving three dimensional objects than it is to a static flat surface. Would require Hollywood money to do it properly.

  4. I don’t care for footie and in recent times I don’t care for Nine much, but was a totally d*** move by Seven. Sponsorships help teams like the Falcons out greatly, and Nine are entitled to exposure for the money they put in. Not impressed at all, Seven. Play the game.

  5. At the end of the day Seven and Nine are two businesses in competition with each other so why would one promote the other? Both the Football club and Nine would have known that Seven not televising while the logo was there would have been the outcome even though the Nine sponsorship is no doubt good for the club.

It’d be like Coles showing pictures in their store or catalogues of people wearing sports clothes with a Woolworths logo.

  6. I live in SA but would still want to see every Falcons supporter to completely annoy Channel 7 by putting on Channel 9 hats and possibly red and blue t-shirts

  7. Seven deserve no congratulations at all for their petulant and petty attitude. They should not have the power to decide not to broadcast certain matches just because they don’t like one of the team’s sponsors.
