US drama series The Leftovers, in which 2% of the world’s population vanished, returns to Showcase next week.

Starring Justin Theroux as retired NY police chief Kevin Garvey, the second season sees him relocate his family to Jarden, Texas.

Jarden is the setting for the tale of two families: the Garveys, who have moved to this special place and whose lives were forever changed by the Departure, and the Murphys, a local family, who seem to have been spared from an event that shook the rest of the world.

But just because the Garveys have fled Mapleton to a place untouched by tragedy, doesn’t mean they have escaped the drama of their past.

Co-starring Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccelstone and Liv Tyler, The Leftovers is created by Damon Lindelof, Emmy winner for Lost and acclaimed novelist Tom Perrotta.

Described as “the most creatively bold series on television” by The Hollywood Reporter, The Leftovers is produced for HBO and is exclusive to Foxtel’s showcase channel in Australia.

Thursday, October 8 at 8.30pm.
